Grab 1,500 Ultimate Rewards Points When You Pay 5 Times with Chase Pay
|It appears Chase has extended an earlier 1,500 Ultimate Rewards/Chase Pay promotion to now run through December 31, 2018.
Caution – there’s a chance this extension is targeted to specific cardholders. I’ll update this post if I find a definitive answer.
It may have been because the previous 1,500 UR bonus using Chase Pay was buried in the fine print of another Chase Pay deal, leading to limited participation.
Or, Chase just decided to be gracious, extending the period during which Chase Ultimate Rewards cardholders can earn these valuable bonus points.
No matter, I’ll take any opportunity I can to add to my Ultimate Rewards points balances. If you’re not sure why I value UR points so highly, read my piece “Why I Love Chase Ultimate Rewards Points and You Should Too.”
The Chase Pay Promo
Use Chase Pay five times for a minimum purchase amount of $25 each time and get 1,500 Ultimate Rewards points.
The promotion runs now through December 31, 2018.
Valid in-store using the Chase Pay app, or online with merchants who accept Chase Pay.
Limit one offer per customer or card account.
Which Cards Can Be Used?
Similar promotions have been run in the past and the primary question is always, which Chase Ultimate Rewards credit cards can be used to earn the bonus points?
And almost always – actually, I can’t think of a time this hasn’t been the case – all personal (not business) Ultimate Rewards earning credit cards can be used to earn the bonus points.
Which means, the following cards should trigger the 1,500 point bonus when the promo’s rules are followed:
- Freedom
- Freedom Unlimited
- Sapphire
- Sapphire Preferred
- Sapphire Reserve
You can always Secure Message Chase from your credit card account to see if you/your UR earning card are eligible for this promotion.
Chase Pay
You can read more about Chase Pay here.
You can see a list of retailers who accept Chase Pay and whether it’s accepted online or in-store (via the Chase Pay app) at the individual retailer.
Note: To use the Chase Pay app in-store, you must bring up the Chase Pay QR code within the app and have it scanned at checkout. You cannot pay by opening the app and holding the smartphone over the credit card terminal, as you can with other mobile payment systems.
Stacking the Starbucks Promo
Earlier this week we wrote about a Starbucks/Chase Pay promotion.
You should be able to take advantage of both of these Chase Pay deals, killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.
For the Starbucks deal, you’ll need to reload $25, rather than the minimum $20 amount for that promo, to meet the required spends for both deals.
Of course, I’d only recommend stacking these deals if you’re a regular Starbucks customer since you’ll be adding a total of $75 to your Starbucks account.
Once you reload $25 to your Starbucks account via Chase Pay the allotted three times, you only have two remaining $25 Chase Pay transactions to earn the 1,500 Ultimate Rewards points.
$25 gift cards from your favorite retailers purchased at walmart.com using Chase Pay to checkout comes to mind as one option to easily knock out the two remaining Chase Pay purchases.
Wrap Up
I rank Ultimate Rewards points at the top of all transferrable points currencies, which is why I do my best to take advantage of any bonus UR points opportunities that come along.
This isn’t the easiest promotion to take advantage of since it requires using Chase Pay multiple times to earn the bonus. But, for many, the extra effort is likely worth it.
If you were planning on taking full advantage of the Starbucks/Chase Pay deal, you’re already more than halfway to the 1,500 bonus points when you reload $25 rather than the $20 the Starbucks deal requires.
And with the holiday season quickly approaching, simply selecting Chase Pay for select purchases can make earning the bonus points easier than you might think.
