Chase Pay Promos to Boost Your Ultimate Rewards Balance

Chase is once again pushing its mobile wallet payment system, Chase Pay, and those wanting to build Ultimate Rewards points balances are the winners.

The promotions where Ultimate Rewards credit card holders can earn bonus UR points begin October 1, 2018, and run through October 31, 2018.

ShopRite Grocery Stores and Chase Pay

ShopRite is a grocery store chain located primarily in the Northeast U.S.  You can check ShopRite locations at this link.

Two of these Chase Pay promotions are exclusively related to ShopRite purchases, while the third seems to apply to any purchase made with a Chase Sapphire family (Sapphire, Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve) credit card.

Here are the details for each promo:

ShopRite and the Chase Freedom Credit Card

Use Chase Pay with your Chase Freedom credit card at ShopRite stores or ShopRite.com and earn up to 10% cash back (10x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent).

You will earn less cash back/UR points (6%) on your ShopRite purchases if you don’t activate your Freedom bonus categories or you’ve already hit the $1,500 spend amount.

ShopRite and Chase Sapphire Credit Cards

Earn 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you use Chase Pay with a Chase Sapphire family (Sapphire, Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve) card to make a minimum purchase of $50 at ShopRite stores or ShopRite.com October 1-31.

Chase Pay and Sapphire Purchases

The second to last line in the above image states, “You can earn 1,500 Ultimate Rewards points when you use Chase Pay with your Chase Sapphire Preferred card five times (minimum purchase of $25 each use) at ShopRite or any other participating retailer this quarter.”

Which seems to imply that a $25 or more purchase at any retailer that accepts Chase Pay would qualify you to earn the 1,500 UR points bonus as long as you use your Sapphire family card to pay within Chase Pay.

You can read more about Chase Pay here.

You can see a list of retailers who accept Chase Pay and whether it’s accepted online or in-store (via the Chase Pay app) at the individual retailer.

Wrap Up

These Chase Pay promotions are a great way to add to your Ultimate Rewards balance.  If you’re able to max them all out, you’ll take in 12,000 Ultimate Rewards points.

Of course, to do so you need to have both a Chase Freedom credit card and a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve card (to turn the Freedom’s cash back into usable Ultimate Rewards points).

And live near a ShopRite grocery store.  Although, previous promotions have shown gift card purchases at ShopRite.com using Chase Pay to checkout have worked to earn bonus points.  Not guaranteed for these promos, though.

One last point to consider.  The promotion’s language lists only the Sapphire Preferred card.  Previous promotions like this have considered any Chase Sapphire card (Sapphire, Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve) as eligible to earn the bonus points.  If you hold the plain Sapphire card, or the Sapphire Reserve and are hesitant to give it a try without confirmation, a call to the toll-free number on the back of the card will oftentimes confirm its eligibility for the promotion.
