New Costco Members Have a Really Nice Membership Deal Available Through August 22, 2021

It was just last week that we wrote about savings opportunities that could drop the price of a new or renewal Costco membership to $30.

Now Costco itself is out with a rare, new-members-only membership deal that effectively drops the annual membership price to $20.

However, you may be able to use the strategies we discussed in the earlier article to save even more – and potentially make $10 on your Costco membership if you have access to all the savings deals.

Costco New Member Membership Deal

First, here’s the current Costco membership promotion for new members.

Summer Exclusive Costco New Member Deal Link

Titled “Summer Exclusive,” this promotion provides new members who purchase a $60 membership:

• A $40 Costco Shop Card 
• $40 off any order of $250+ on Costco.com

To get this new member deal you must use the Promo Code: SUMMER21 at checkout when purchasing your membership.

And, supposedly, you need to use a Visa credit card to pay for your new membership.

Per Costco, “Note: You will see a $0.01 deduction on your membership cost after the promo code is entered. This indicates that your promo code has been accepted and you will receive the promotion incentive.“

The terms associated with this promo are:

• Promotional Costco Shop Card incentive will be mailed 4 to 6 weeks after sign-up; it will be mailed to the address provided by the member.
• $40 off any order of $250+ on Costco.com will be emailed 1-2 weeks after sign-up, to the email address on file. Coupon restrictions apply.
• Limit one promotion per household.
• Valid for new memberships only.
• To qualify as a new member, an existing Costco membership must be expired at least 18 months or more.
• Not valid for renewal of an existing Costco membership or an upgrade of an existing membership to an Executive Membership.
• Nontransferable and may not be combined with any other promotion.

True, you’re not getting the $40 Costco Shop Card right away, but once it does arrive, that’s effectively shaving $40 off your membership price via $40 worth of free Costco shopping.

I don’t count the other $40 discount due to its required spend online…too many restrictions to make it an easy offset for me.

But, a positive to your pocketbook if you’re going to use it.

And some general Costco rules to keep in mind.

A Costco membership is $60 a year. An Executive Membership is an additional $60 upgrade fee a year. Each membership includes one free Household Card. May be subject to sales tax. Costco accepts all Visa^® cards, as well as cash, checks, debit/ATM cards, EBT and Costco Shop Cards. New members must be 18 years of age or older.

This new member promotion requires auto renewal of membership to be accepted at sign up.

Most subscription services now require auto renewal when setting up activation – and most are fairly easy to turn off once a membership is activated. I’m not familiar with how changes to Costco’s auto renewal work, but likely once you have access to an online account it can be turned off within that account. I would recommend turning auto renew off as soon as you can.

And, if you’re currently a Costco member, or you’re within the 18 month period from being a member, another household member should be able to sign up for this deal – as long as they meet the new-member-requirements. Then you can use the free Household Card that comes with their membership for your Costco access the next year.

Additional Savings on Your Costco Membership

We listed two savings options in our recent post “Save $30 on Your Costco Membership Fee with This Chase Offer and Dosh Cash Back Deal,” that should be able to be used in conjunction with this Costco new member deal.

A quick look at the two offers:

• A Chase Offer provides a $10 statement credit when a $60+ Costco membership is purchased

Wrap Up

Costco rarely offers membership savings deals.

This is one of those rare times.

Yes, this promo is limited to new members only, but even for current members, the “other-household-member” trick can be used to get a little extra for joining Costco.

It’s a limited-time promotion, only good through August 22, 2021, so if interested act fast.

And if you have a Chase credit card on which the Costco Chase Offer is available, you can save an easy $10 on your membership, too.

With a little more effort, Dosh can save you an additional $20.

When tallied together, all three money-saving deals would give you a $10 profit just for joining Costco.
