The primary part of this deal is the – potential – opportunity to earn 5% (or my favorite, 5 Ultimate Rewards points) back on purchases at select retailers when you use Chase Pay to checkout.

Chase runs these extra earning promotions every once in a while for their Ultimate Rewards earning cards, and they’re a great way to earn extra cash back or Ultimate Rewards points.

This 5%/5x promo may be targeted, (I have it on my Freedom card) so check your email to see if you received the additional earning offer on one of your Ultimate Rewards earning credit cards.

The extra earning is on up to $300 in purchases and is valid through June 30, 2019.

Luckily, this is for online checkout only at the merchants below. I say luckily because using Chase Pay in-store can be a major hassle depending on the store and individual helping your checkout.

However, the inclusion of Walmart makes this an easy way to max out the cash back/Ultimate Rewards points earning by purchasing one or more gift cards to retailers you’ll be buying from anyway.

Buy gift cards, earn the extra cash back/points and use the gift cards to make your purchases.

If you don’t plan purchases at any of the merchants for which Walmart sells gift cards, you can always buy a Visa or Mastercard gift card (these come with an extra fee, of course) and use it anywhere Visa or Mastercard are accepted. Earning the extra cash back/points in the process.
