American Express Wants You to Use Your Hilton Cards – Were You Targeted for These Spend Bonuses?

Now that we’ve moved into November and the holiday shopping season, we’re seeing more and more credit card spend bonuses being offered across most credit card issuers.

Earlier this week we saw Amex target Hilton cardholders with a 13x spend bonus on Amazon purchases.  That’s in addition to Chase offering a statement credit on its Hyatt credit cards for spend in specific categories in November and December.  And, again, Chase offering bonus Ultimate Rewards points for using Chase Pay through December 31.

I expect we’ll see even more spend incentives as we move further into the main part of the holiday shopping season.

Gotta love competition between banks for your credit card spend.

American Express Hilton Grocery Bonus

Now, American Express is back with another bonus on its Hilton credit cards for spend at grocery stores.

This bonus offer appears to be targeted, so not everyone who holds an American Express Hilton credit card will receive this offer.

It’s also not clear if only the Hilton Honors card is the one being targeted for this grocery spend bonus, or if the Amex Hilton Honors Ascend and Aspire cards are targeted as well.

Now to the specifics: This offer is for 10,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points when you spend $200 on eligible purchases at U.S. supermarkets now through November 30, 2018.

That’s in addition to the normal supermarket category bonus your Hilton card already provides.  In the case of the no annual fee Hilton Honors Card, that’s 5x points per dollar spent.

Meaning, if you hit the $200 spend requirement for this deal, you’ll earn 11,000 Hilton Honors points total.  Not too bad.

Hilton Honors Bonus Points for General Spend

There’s another American Express Hilton Honors credit card bonus points offer making the rounds that earns 20,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points when $2,000 is spent on the card by December 25, 2018.  This is general spend, you do not have to make purchases in specific categories to earn the bonus.

And another offer for 40,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points when $4,000 is spent.

These are also targeted, so check your inbox, or log in to your Amex account to see if the offer’s waiting for you.

As with the grocery spend bonus, you must enroll your Hilton Honors card to earn the bonus points.

We’ve seen American Express make a concerted effort to get Hilton credit card holders to pull their cards from the sock drawer and put some actual spend on them this holiday shopping season.
