Grab a Free Starbucks Drink When You Load $20 or More to Your Starbucks Card Using Chase Pay

Starbucks is offering a 150 Star bonus (enough for a free drink under Starbucks’ new loyalty program structure) when $20 or more is loaded to your Starbucks card in the Starbucks App using Chase Pay to make the payment.

Yes, there are a few hoops to jump through – $20 minimum load and use Chase Pay to make the payment – but for regular Starbucks customers, this is a pretty easy way to earn a free drink.

Remember, Starbucks revamped its rewards program, implementing the changes a few weeks ago. The new program makes a free drink a little more “expensive,” but does offer lower “priced” options for redeeming Stars.

Here’s a quick rundown of the new Stars program with its new redemption options and levels.

Earn 2 Stars per dollar spent (unchanged)

Redeem Stars:

  • 25 Stars – Customize your drink (espresso shot, dairy substitute, syrup and more)
  • 50 Stars – Brewed hot coffee, bakery item or hot tea
  • 150 Stars – Handcrafted drink, hot breakfast or parfait
  • 200 Stars – Lunch sandwich, protein box or salad
  • 400 Stars – Select merchandise or at-home coffee

A free handcrafted drink is now 25 Stars more expensive than it previously was. Starbucks spins the new program by saying it provides more options…which is true, but still, a free drink is more expensive at 150 Stars.

At least with this promotion, you can enjoy a free drink for doing nothing more than reloading your Starbucks card using Chase Pay as your payment option.

And be sure to use one of your Chase cards within Chase Pay that earns multiple points per dollar spent on dining (Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, etc.) to max out this deal.

Not familiar with Chase Pay? All you need is a smartphone, the Chase Pay app, and a Chase credit card account and you can take advantage of this and similar Chase Pay promotions. You can read about the digital payment program and set it up here.
