This Week’s U.S. Travel Association’s Daily Getaways Travel Deals and a Peek Ahead
|This is the first week of the 2021 U.S. Travel Association’s Daily Getaways promotion, with deals beginning Thursday, October 7, 2021.
Past Daily Getaways promos have stretched 5 weeks in length, with new deals offered each weekday during that period.
This year, the Daily Getaways will be about two and a half weeks in length.
And that’s not the only difference.
As in past years, the best was always saved for last. Not this year.
This year, the Daily Getaways promotion is starting off with a bang. At least for its second day of deals.
Let’s take a look at what the first two days have to offer and then a peek at some of the upcoming deals.
Daily Getaways First Week Deals
The first week of this year’s Daily Getaways is short and sweet with two days of all hotel points.
Anyone who dabbles in the Miles and Points hobby knows how valuable Hyatt points are. And, as in years past, Hyatt points are up for grabs.
But it’s Hilton Honors points that take the leadoff spot for the 2021 Daily Getaways.
It can definitely be argued that Hilton points aren’t anywhere close to being as valuable as Hyatt points, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth giving a look.
Daily Getaways Details
Thursday
Three Hilton Honors points packages will start off this year’s Daily Getaways deals on Thursday.
- 30,000 Hilton Honors Points for $150 (450 sets available)
- 100,000 Hilton Honors Points for $500 (225 sets available)
- 250,000 Hilton Honors Points for $1,250 (176 sets available)
Only 3 sets of the 30,000 Hilton points can be purchased and only 1 set of the 100,000 and 250,000 points can be purchased per Hilton Honors member.
So, up to 5 sets of points can be purchased by one Hilton Honors member total for this deal.
With Hilton points, the best purchase is one that allows your total Hilton Honors points to hit a level that meets an award redemption you’re looking to book. Especially when you’re using the 5 nights for the price of 4 award redemption option.
Speculative purchases might not be the best route with Hilton points due to the variability of award redemption pricing.
That said, there will still be a good amount of interest, with many ready to buy when the points go on sale October 7 at 1:00 pm. Eastern Time. Pick the package that will benefit your situation the most and buy that one first. Then, if you want more, go for your next package choice.
Friday
Three Hyatt point packages are up for grabs on Friday. These are extremely coveted, so getting one, let alone more than one, package is somewhat akin to winning the lottery. But, like I always say, you can’t win if you don’t play. So, more than any other item from this year’s Daily Getaways, this is the one I’ll be trying for.
Unfortunately, there are a significantly reduced number of points’ sets available this year, making it all the more difficult to actually get one.
- 30,000 World of Hyatt Points for $396 (2 sets of points available)
- 50,000 World of Hyatt Points for $660 (6 sets of points available)
- 80,000 World of Hyatt Points for $960 (8 sets of points available)
No more than one set of points per package can be purchased per World of Hyatt membership number.
And a maximum of 4 sets of points is allowed per membership number across all Hyatt points offers. *This is the exact language on the individual Hyatt points listings, but I’m thinking it was copied and pasted from the last offering since there aren’t 4 packages in this year’s list (there were in 2019’s).
So, you might be able to buy from each package, but I’d say that’ll be impossible considering the small number of total packages being offered.
Which means, go for the one set of points you want the most.
In reality, actually getting one set of points will be close to impossible.
If you’re one of the lucky ones, I’d encourage you to go out immediately and buy a lottery ticket, because, my friend, you’ve got luck on your side.
Upcoming Deals
Week two of the Daily Getaways continues with hotel points – IHG, Choice and Wyndham – along with some Omni Hotels and Resorts stays and Accor hotel stays. We’ll publish a more detailed overview this coming weekend.
And, the U.S. Travel Association is keeping its week 3 offerings a mystery at this point. So check back to see what deals may result.
Quick Thoughts
I’ve pretty much given my thoughts on these points packages under the individual deals. But, to reiterate…
In general, buying points speculatively is a bad idea.
If you have an upcoming trip for which you need a specific number of points to get the award stay you want, buying points is a great way to do so.
But if you don’t have a specific travel goal on the horizon, then it’s probably best to pass.
I would put that same line of thinking toward these Hilton points deals.
But not necessarily for the Hyatt points. Those I’d grab no matter since value can always be found when booking Hyatt award nights. And the Hyatt award chart is just so enticing – although it will be changing somewhat in the coming months – whether you’re looking for an economical stay at a Hyatt Place or Hyatt House or an aspirational experience at a Grand or Park Hyatt.
All that said, head to the Daily Getaways site, check pricing on individual deals and plan out your purchase strategy.
Daily Getaways Ins and Outs
All Daily Getaways deals go on sale at 1:00 pm ET the day they are listed.
Deal quantities are listed on an individual deal’s page on the Daily Getaways calendar. For popular deals, they will go quickly, so be ready to click the “Buy Now” button right at 1:00 pm.
Actually, if there is any deal in which you’re interested, just to be safe I’d be ready to buy right at 1:00 pm when the deal opens.
As with anything in life, the details matter, so for deals you’re interested in, be sure to look at the fine print…it’s listed on each individual deal at the Daily Getaways site.
That said, scope out the deals that interest you for this week, set your cell phone alarm for 12:50 pm the day of the deal and get ready to buy!
Here’s hoping you’re able to grab a deal this year. If so, enjoy your travels.
And if not, there are plenty of ways to make your travel dreams come true without breaking the bank. Check out our Miles and Points series to get started making your travel dreams come true.
