The New Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards Have Launched with Some Nice Sign-Up Bonuses
|The new Delta SkyMiles credit cards have launched, and American Express is christening its new cards with some nice sign-up bonuses.
One very important point to keep in mind…while the American Express site (and Savings Beagle, too) are using the word “new” in association with this launch, for the eligibility of sign-up bonuses, these are not being considered new card products.
American Express limits applicants to one sign-up bonus per card per the applicant’s lifetime (which in American Express’ eyes seems to be about 7 years).
If you’ve received a sign-up bonus for any of these cards, you won’t be eligible to receive that card’s listed sign-up bonus again.
However, each card is considered a different product, so if you’ve received the sign-up bonus for the Delta SkyMiles Gold Card in the past, you could get the sign-up bonus for the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card or the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card.
Okay, with that out of the way, on to the “New Launch Offers.”
Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards New Launch Offers
Beginning today, January 30, 2020, American Express has launched its “new” Delta SkyMiles credit cards.
You’ll notice the cards have a new look, and if you read our post “The Delta Air Lines Credit Card Benefits are Changing, and Why Now Might Be the Best Time to Apply” you know the cards also have a different bonus points earning structure.
And, to accompany all that, all Delta SkyMiles credit cards have increased annual fees.
Which is likely why American Express and Delta are trying to soften the increased annual fee blow by offering these somewhat increased sign-up bonuses.
Let’s take a look at what’s currently being offered.
Delta SkyMiles Gold Card
Earn 60,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months from account opening. Earn an additional 10,000 miles after your first anniversary of card membership [New benefit to entice cardholder not to cancel after the first year].
Annual fee is waived the first year – $99 each year thereafter (increased from $95)
You can view the New Launch Offer for the Delta Gold card, see its new benefits, and apply at the link below. The link is my referral link, providing me a referral bonus of points – currently the offer is the same as the public offer, but it’s worth checking to be sure.

Annual fee is $250 (not waived) [increased from $195]

Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card
Earn 80,000 bonus miles and 20,000 MQMs after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months from account opening. Earn an additional 20,000 miles after your first year anniversary of card membership [new sign-up benefit to entice holding the card past one year].
Annual fee is $550 (not waived) [increased from $450]
You can view the New Launch Offer for the Delta Reserve card, see its new benefits, and apply at the link below. The link is my referral link, providing me a referral bonus of points – currently the offer is the same as the public offer, but it’s worth checking to be sure.

All of these New Launch Offers are valid now through 4/1/2020.
You can also apply for the Delta SkyMiles Blue Card, the Delta no annual fee card and earn 15,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months, but that’s probably not the best application route to go.
The Delta SkyMiles Blue Card is best for downgrading one of the other three SkyMiles cards after year one. Holding the Blue would not allow a downgrade.
Don’t forget, there are business credit card versions of the Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum and Reserve cards that are considered unique products, too. If you qualify for business cards, you may want to look at those, as well. Although sign-up bonuses may be different and require higher minimum spends to earn.
Wrap Up
These are nice sign-up bonuses for the newly launched Delta SkyMiles family of credit cards.
Although, when taking the first year anniversary bonus out of the picture, the sign-up bonuses are about the same as previous increased bonus offers.
Might the bonuses get better later this year? It’s hard to tell, unfortunately.
Considering American Express is once-per-lifetime for sign-up bonuses (with a few exceptions) you want to grab the best sign-up bonus possible for each Amex card.
These Delta SkyMiles bonuses are pretty close to the best. Especially when the first-year anniversary bonuses are factored in.
Are they enough to make you want to apply?
