Starbucks and Chase Pay Want to Give You Free Coffee
|Starbucks and Chase Pay are at it once again, and you can benefit by getting up to four free Starbucks drinks or food items when you take full advantage of this promotion.
Regular Starbucks customers will benefit most from this promotion due to the cash outlays required.
However, even those who only enjoy one or two Starbucks drinks a month can get a freebie or two.
The Starbucks/Chase Pay Promotion
Now through December 12, 2018, you can collect a pre-determined number of Bonus Stars when $20 or more is loaded to your account via the Starbucks app.
You must use Chase Pay to add the $20+ reload. You can reload up to 3 times for this promotion.
Each reload will result in the following Bonus Stars being deposited to your account:
- 1 Reload – Collect 125 Bonus Stars
- 2 Reloads – Collect 275 Bonus Stars
- 3 Reloads – Collect 475 Bonus Stars
If you add $60 total to your Starbucks account, in 3 separate $20 reloads via Chase Pay, you’ll receive 475 Bonus Stars.
Considering 125 Bonus Stars – when you have Starbucks Gold Level status – will get you a free Starbucks drink or food item of your choice, the 475 Bonus Stars equate to 3.8 Starbucks drinks or food items. Add in the Stars you’ll earn for purchasing Starbucks items with your $20 reloads, and you’ll be well over 4 free drinks as a result of this promotion.
Even if you’re an infrequent Starbucks customer (with Gold Level status), the single $20 reload, using Chase Pay to make your payment, will get you a free drink.
Don’t have Starbucks Gold Level status? This promo can get you there. It takes 300 stars to earn Gold Level, so, technically, 2 reloads and $13 of Starbucks spend (you earn 2 Stars per $1 in spend) hits the mark and allows you to redeem 125 Stars for a free Starbucks food or drink item.

Maximizing Points with This Promotion
Chase credit cards, and especially Ultimate Rewards earning Chase credit cards, are considered top-of-the-heap when it comes to building and maximizing points for Miles and Points enthusiasts.
To take full advantage of points earning with this promo, you’ll want to use your Chase Freedom credit card within the Chase Pay app to pay. This quarter, any purchases made via Chase Pay, using the Freedom card, will earn 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent (or 5% cash back if that’s your choice).
If you don’t have a Chase Freedom card, then you’ll want to use your Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card within Chase Pay to pay for your Starbucks reloads to earn 3x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent.
And if you don’t have either of those Chase cards, then, of course, you’ll want to use your Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card within Chase Pay to pay, earning 2x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spend on your reload(s).
Should you not have any of those cards, it’s time to change that for future Chase Pay/Ultimate Rewards earning promotions.

Wrap Up
This Starbucks and Chase Pay promotion is a fantastic deal for regular Starbucks customers. You’re going to reload your Starbucks account anyway, so why not use this Chase Pay promo to add significant amounts of Bonus Stars to your account while renewing Gold Level status in the process?
The promo is a little less attractive for those who don’t frequent Starbucks on a regular basis. However, even occasional Starbucks customers can benefit from loading their account via Chase Pay, even if it’s just once (as long as you have Gold Level status to turn the 125 Bonus Stars into a free drink/food item).
