Sony 75” 4K TV – save $1000 off of Best Buy’s “SALE” price

Here’s how – Sony has the same pricing for their TVs for every store. This applies to authorized dealers with same model number. Some stores offer bonus deals where they throw in a Blu Ray player or something extra, but basically you will get the same pricing when you are searching for a Sony TV (and other brands like Samsung). This is called Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP).

Dell has been trying to stimulate TV shoppers  for a few years now by offering many sets with a bonus Dell eGift card. These cards are not like regular gift cards, they expire in 90 days after you get them, which can take up to 20 days after purchase. However, if you can find a use for them in that time span it is an excellent deal especially since their Sony and Samsung TVs are sold for the same prices as Best Buy and others.

For example, this week Dell has a 75” Sony 4K TV (75X850E) set on sale for $2498 and so does everyone else. However, they are throwing in a whopping $500 Dell Promo eGift card to go along with it. It is a great time because with Christmas coming up that $500 could surely be used for a laptop or a smaller TV to be used somewhere else. Dell has lots of electronics on top of computers and accessories.

OK, well you might be thinking $2500-$500 is still $2000, that is only a $500 savings. Where is the other $500. Yes, every $500 helps. This part is a little trickier and you need to validate this can be done prior to making the purchase. Many credit cards offer pricing protection. I have a Discover card and their policy states they will price match any item up to $500 for a certain period of time. OK, well you are now thinking that if all stores offer this Sony 4K at the same price then where is the extra savings coming from? It seems that Discover and perhaps other credit card companies are willing to price match those less than reputable sites of unauthorized dealers too.

Have you ever typed in a model number of a TV to see where you can buy it online and a whole bunch of store names pop up with the same price or close to it? Then there will be a couple at the bottom who might be 20 or 30% cheaper. Many of these stores are in the NYC or New Jersey area, kind of like a “Crazy Eddie’s” discount store. You might not want to purchase from them, but they could be your temporary best friend to help you get your ultimate deal.

I have read on forums (and will soon try myself) that customers have used these sites like TV Superstores or Joe’s AV to successfully price match a high end TV through Discover. I would first try to email your Discover or American Express, etc. credit card customer service to verify they will price match the item specifically with a particular store first to make sure you will get the price difference back.

In our case the Sony 4K TV is on sale at Dell for $2500

The Dell eGift card value is $500

The current price at TV Superstores is $2000

If price matching is successful (please verify this for yourselves) and you will have use of a $500 Dell eGift card in 90 days, the effective price will be $1500 for a name brand 75” 4K TV, a terrific deal and you can laugh all the way to the bank.

If you do go ahead and get this TV or a similar deal, place a comment below to let readers know what credit card you successfully used for the price protection match and what competitor you used for the price match such as Joe’s AV or TV Superstores.
