Shell Fuel Rewards Members Can Save $0.10 per Gallon with This Big 10 Basketball Promo

Update 10/2021 – This Shell Fuel Rewards savings promotion was from January of this year, and is no longer available. Unfortunately, we’re not seeing any other savings offers available for Fuel Rewards members at this time.

Fuel Rewards members can save $0.10 per gallon this coming Tuesday, January 26, 2021, and possibly every Tuesday during the Big Ten Conference basketball season when filling up at participating Shell gas stations.

Update: It looks like this is an ongoing promotion, providing a $0.10 per gallon savings each Tuesday during the Big 10 basketball season. Will this include March Madness? Not sure. Keep filling up on Tuesdays until the savings stop, I guess.

Since this promotion is focused on the Big Ten Conference, you can only save at Shell gas stations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

It’s not completely clear whether this is a one-day promotion or will be available every Tuesday during the Big Ten basketball season (see below).

One other thing to keep in mind, you must be a Fuel Rewards member and ensure your member number is used during the purchase process to save.

Interestingly, the promo runs January 26, 2021, through January 26, 2021! Yes, you read that correctly. That is literally what is printed in the promo email’s fine print. I sure hope that’s not the real end-date.

I guess this could be a one-day promo. In which case, it would have been better not to have a promo at all considering past Fuel Rewards promotions have spanned the full sports season.

I’ll update should the end-date become more clear.

Fuel Rewards

If you’re not familiar with the program, Fuel Rewards provides discounts on gasoline purchases at participating Shell gas stations.

Gold Status with Fuel Rewards gives members 5 cents off per gallon of gas up to 20 gallons per fill up.

Once you’ve signed up for the Fuel Rewards program, simply swipe your Fuel Rewards card, your Single Swipe enabled payment card (credit card) or enter your Alt Id (usually it’s the phone number you provide when setting up the account) at the pump and your per gallon savings will automatically appear.

Additional per gallon savings can be had when you link to dining, shopping or other programs.

Wrap Up

Depending on where you live, this promotion may save you on your fill-ups in the coming months, or could be a complete dud.

Since it’s Big Ten Conference focused, the savings can only be had at Shell gas stations in select states – see the list above.

For those living in, or driving through, those states, might as well sign up for the Fuel Rewards program and take advantage of the savings when your need to fill up and Tuesdays coincide (if it’s more than a one-day promo, that is).

The regular Gold Status $0.05 per gallon savings is better than nothing, and worth signing up for the Fuel Rewards program on its own.

And linking a credit card that earns bonus cash back or points on gasoline purchases to the Fuel Rewards program makes double dipping as easy as sliding your credit card at the pump.
