Thanks to the American Express Membership Rewards program, targeted individuals will be able to use as little as $0.01 of  your Amex Membership Rewards points and save 20% on an Amazon purchase.

How It Works

If you haven’t already, you need to link your American Express Membership Rewards earning credit card to your Amazon account.

Then check to see if you are one of the lucky recipients of this Amazon deal.  Click this link to see eligibility/activate the offer.

If you’re not, you’ll see this message:

Those lucky enough to have been targeted need to click the Activate button, and the promo deal will automatically be added to your account.

Add products sold and shipped by Amazon to your shopping cart to get the 20% off promo. You will not get the savings if your products are not sold and shipped by Amazon.

When checking out, you need to use the American Express Membership Rewards earning credit card you linked to your Amazon account to pay.

And, you’ll need to use at least $0.01 of your available Membership Rewards points to trigger the 20% discount.

The 20% off will automatically apply to qualifying items.

A maximum of $50 can be saved with this promotion, meaning a purchase totaling $250 will max out the promo.

Important Points from the Terms are:

• The promotion will end on the earlier of 11:59 PT on 7/16/19 or the time at which offers worth $5,000,000 have been redeemed
• Offer applies only to the purchase where Membership Rewards points are used for at least a portion of the purchase and the promotion code is applied at checkout
• Offer only applies to products sold by Amazon.com (Look for “sold by Amazon Digital Services LLC” on the product detail page. Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities will not qualify for this offer, even if “fulfilled by Amazon.com” or “Prime Eligible”.
• Offer does not apply to the purchase of digital content
• Promotional codes (including those placed directly in accounts) may not be redeemed for Amazon Gift Cards
• The 20% savings should work on 3rd party gift cards like Netflix, Whole Foods, Safeway, Uber and more

If your account shows as not eligible, you may be able to trigger the promotion by removing your linked Membership Rewards earning American Express credit card from your Amazon account and re-adding it a few days later. This has worked for some with past Amex/Amazon promotions.

Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day is coming soon. July 15 and 16 is where you may be able to find extra Prime Day savings deals. Interestingly, this 20% off promo ends July 16 at 11:59 p,m, PT. As long as the promo is still available, you can stack the Prime Day savings with this 20% off promo.

Or just use it on a purchase you’re going to make now.

Purchase third-party gift cards to save 20% on purchases you’ll be making anyway such as Whole Foods, Safeway grocery stores, Netflix, Starbucks, etc.

A number of pet foods are shipped and sold by Amazon, so you may be able to stock up on your best friend’s favorite food and save 20% in the process.

Of course, any product “sold and shipped by Amazon.com” is eligible for this 20% savings, so if you were targeted for this promo, use it on an item or items that will benefit and save you the most.
