Freedom’s New Earning Quarter Starts Today – Don’t Miss Out

The second quarter bonus categories for the Chase Freedom credit card begin today, April 1, 2017.

Freedom’s second quarter bonus categories include:

  • Grocery stores – not including Walmart and Target
  • Drug Stores

All purchases made in these categories earn 5% cash back – or my favorite, 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent – on up to $1,500 in combined purchases.

Bonus earnings on grocery store and drug store purchases will run through June 30, 2017.

If you have not already activated your cash back/points earning for the second quarter, you can do so here.

Personally, the grocery store bonus category is where I can always max out the $1,500 spend and earn 7,500 valuable Ultimate Rewards points. If plain old grocery purchases over that 3 month period can’t do it, most grocery stores have a huge selection of gift cards to help hit that max spend threshold.

And don’t forget about drug stores, especially if you have prescriptions that you pay via a health savings account. Simply pay for your prescriptions with your Freedom card and reimburse yourself from your HSA.  Of course, most drug stores carry a vast array of gift cards, too.

So, hitting that max $1,500 spending threshold shouldn’t be too difficult for anyone this quarter.
