Another Motivator to Spend on Your American Express Delta Credit Cards – Is This Becoming a Trend?
|A few weeks ago I wrote, “Is American Express Learning That Regular Spend on Delta Cards Just Isn’t Worth It?” In that piece, I highlighted an Amex Offer that provided 4 additional Delta miles per dollar spent on your cable or satellite TV bill. Not the best Miles/Points earning option available, but not bad, either.
The Offer made me wonder if Amex and Delta are making more of an effort to get people to actually put regular spend on Delta cards.
If you’re not familiar, outside of Delta spend, you only get one Delta SkyMile per dollar spent when you pay with your Delta credit card.
If building Delta SkyMiles is your goal, then there are much better credit cards with which to do that. Any American Express Membership Rewards earning credit card – many of which earn multiple points per dollar spent in specific categories – can transfer to Delta at a 1:1 rate.
So, for example, if you’re going to grocery shop, either the Amex Gold, Everyday Preferred or Everyday credit card would be a much better option for building – indirectly – Delta SkyMiles.
For Miles and Points hobbyists, this is well known. And is a primary reason that most hobbyists’ Delta cards get “sock drawered” after meeting the minimum spend to get the sign-up bonus.
Another Motivational Amex Offer on a Delta Card
Interestingly, I just came across another Amex Offer that might indicate Amex and Delta are making a concerted effort to direct more everyday spend to the Delta credit cards.
Get 4 additional Delta miles per dollar spent in one or more eligible transactions by using your card to make a payment on your insurance bill.
That would equal a total of 5 Delta Skymiles per dollar spent on your insurance payment…not too bad.
Unfortunately, at least in the Offer Terms I have, Eligible Purchases are not listed. I would think, though, any payment made directly to a known insurance company should trigger the additional Delta SkyMiles.
There is a limit of 1,500 miles that can be earned with this Offer.
And, for those wanting to take advantage, the Offer runs through 11/30/19.
So, again, we see a nice way to earn some extra SkyMiles if that’s your goal.
But, the bigger question is, will these bonus SkyMiles earning opportunities become a trend, motivating Amex Delta cardholders to pull them from the back corner of the dresser drawer and give them more regular use?
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Would you be more apt to use your Delta credit cards if they earned multiple SkyMiles per dollar spent in everyday spending categories?
