Amex Offers – January 2019
|In a post titled “American Express Offers – A Great Way to Save” I wrote about the great savings opportunities that can be found if you are an American Express cardholder.
Here are a few recent additions to Amex Offers that could save you some cold, hard cash. Offers may be targeted, so check your account for availability.
And always be sure to read the fine print of the individual Offers to make sure you’re not missing some important requirements.
10% Back Deals
Staples – Get 10% back, up to $50
Get 10% back as a statement credit by using your enrolled American Express card on eligible purchases in-store at Staples or online at staples.com by 6/30/2019.
There’s a limit of $50 in total statement credits for this Offer, meaning, you can spend up to $500 on eligible purchases at staples to max out this Offer.
There are exclusions that you’ll want to become familiar with if this Offer is of interest. One is that the Offer is not valid for gift cards in bulk purchases.
Which means, at least to me, that individual gift card purchases are valid. Which is where you can take advantage of this deal if you don’t have any regular Staples purchases on which to use this Offer.
Staples sells a large variety of retailer and bank gift cards both in-store and online.
Most retail gift cards are fee-free, so you’re effectively getting a 10% savings at a retailer when you buy the retailer’s gift card and pay with your Amex card on which this O
A very basic example would be buy a $120 Netflix gift card for $108 after the Amex Offer statement credit and get what is effectively a month free of Netflix on a 12-month subscription (roughly). Load the gift card to your Netflix account and you’re good to go for the next year.
Or, buy a $200 Visa gift card for $206.95 (with the associated fee) and your final price will be $186.25, effectively earning you a “free” $13.75. Then use the gift card anywhere Visa is accepted to pay for your purchases.
You can get the savings on a number of gift cards – or offset the fees and earn on bank issued gift cards – until you hit the $50 statement credit limit.
One caveat to this and the other 10% savings Offers…the Offer’s terms say they’re good on American Express Business Cards, however, these Offers were listed on my personal Amex cards. There’s a chance these Offers were mistakenly added to personal Amex cards, too, and will not be honored. We’ll just have to see…use with caution if these are on your personal Amex cards.
Lowe’s – Get 10% back, up to $100
Get 10% back as a statement credit by using your enrolled Amex card on eligible purchases in-store at Lowe’s or online at Lowes.com by 6/30/2019.
There’s a limit of $100 in total statement credits for this Offer, meaning, you can spend up to $1,000 on purchases at Lowe’s to max out this Offer.
And, while Lowe’s sells a lot of home-related items on which this Offer can be used, they also sell a number of retailer (other than Lowe’s) gift cards, too. See my thoughts on gift cards and this 10% savings Offer in the Staples Offer above.
The same caveat I listed above applies to this Offer, too. Just be aware if you’re using it on a personal Amex card. And, be sure to read the list of exclusions in the Offer Terms.
FuboTV – Spend $35 or more and get $15 back
Get a $15 statement credit by using your enrolled Amex card to make a single purchase of $35 or more online at www.fubo.tv by 7/1/2019.
This Offer can be used 3 times, resulting in 3 separate $15 statement credits.
For those not familiar, FuboTV is a sports-centric Internet TV streaming service. While its focus is sports, it also offers channels such as AMC, HGTV, TBS, CNN, Fox News, Travel Channel, and many others on its streaming platform.
Per month pricing for FuboTV is $39.99, or $24.99 after the $15 Amex Offer statement credit.
If you’re a cord-cutter, FuboTV might be an option to check out, especially if you’re a big sports fan. Give it a look at https://www.fubo.tv/welcome
And with this Amex Offer, you’ll save a little on your subscription costs for the first three months.
