Amazon Savings with Deals from Chase, Citi and American Express
|Select credit card holders can enjoy savings on Amazon purchases when points and associated credit cards are used to make the purchase.
We mentioned two of these deals, Chase and American Express, in our post “Thanksgiving Weekend Deals.”
Since then, a deal for Citi ThankYou points earning credit card holders has been introduced, as well.
Unfortunately, as has been the case with previous deals like these, availability for any one card holder is very hit or miss. Some have been targeted for all three deals, while others are shown no love when they click the activation page link, instead seeing the dreaded “Thank you for your interest in this offer. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this invitation-only offer” message.
Sometimes removing a credit card from your Amazon Wallet, adding it back, re-enrolling it in Shop with Points and checking availability the next day will result in the deal becoming available. Sometimes not. But it’s worth a try if a certain deal – or all three – is of interest.
Now on to the deals themselves.
Chase Ultimate Rewards/Amazon Deal
The Chase / Amazon deal requires a Chase Ultimate Rewards points earning credit card be added as a payment method to your Amazon Wallet and enrolled in Amazon’s Shop with Points.
The deal provides $15 off a purchase of $60 or more of eligible products sold and shipped by Amazon.com. With most of these deals, the items purchased MUST be sold and shipped by Amazon. You can check a product’s purchase page for that specific language.
How to take advantage of this deal.
- Click the “Click to activate” button at the promotion activation page
- Add $60 or more of eligible products sold and shipped by Amazon
- Select your Chase Ultimate Rewards earning credit card as your payment method and use a portion of Ultimate Rewards points to pay. Less is usually better when trying to maximize the value of your UR points…$0.01 for example…however, the amount of points you want to use is completely up to you.
- $15 of savings will be reflected on the final order page
The Fine Print Highlights:
- Deal ends December 13, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, or when 104,666 offers have been redeemed.
- Deal applies to products sold and shipped by Amazon.com.
- Offer does not apply to digital content.

American Express Membership Rewards / Amazon Deal
The American Express / Amazon deal requires an American Express Membership Rewards points earning credit card be added as a payment method to your Amazon Wallet and enrolled in Amazon’s Shop with Points.
The deal provides 20% off eligible purchases (items must be sold and shipped by Amazon) when Membership Rewards points are used to pay. There’s a maximum discount of $100 associated with this deal.
How to take advantage of this deal.
- Click the “Click to activate” button on the promotion activation page.
- Add one or more eligible items to your Amazon shopping cart. Items must be sold and shipped by Amazon to qualify.
- Checkout with your American Express card and use at least one Membership Rewards point to pay a portion of your order. As with the Chase UR points promo, to maximize points value, use the smallest amount possible…$0.01 as an example…to trigger the 20% discount.
- Discount will be reflected on the final order page.
The Fine Print Highlights:
- Deal ends December 23, 2018, or when Amazon elects to end the promotion
- Offer only applies to products sold and shipped by Amazon.com
- Offer does not apply to digital content
- Maximum benefit for this offer is $100
- A Membership Rewards eligible American Express card and Membership Rewards points must be used to purchase

Citi ThankYou Points / Amazon Deal
The Citi / Amazon deal requires a Citi ThankYou points earning credit card be added as a payment method to your Amazon Wallet and enrolled in Amazon’s Shop with Points.
The deal provides $15 off a purchase of $100 or more at Amazon by using Citi ThankYou points to pay.
This promotion doesn’t appear to have a dedicated landing page. However, many users are having success getting the deal by following the steps below.
- Ensure your Citi ThankYou account is linked to Amazon’s Shop with Points.
- Add $100 or more of items shipped and sold by Amazon to your cart.
- Select your Citi ThankYou card as the payment option
- At checkout, split your payment between cash (Citi ThankYou credit card) and at least 1 Citi ThankYou point.
- Enter Promo Code: CITITURKEY5 in the”Add a gift card or promotion code” box.
- $15 discount should be automatically applied to order total.
This is the only deal of the three where you won’t know until the checkout process whether or not you were targeted.
And, I would expect this deal’s terms to be similar to those listed in the Chase and American Express deals.
While $15 off $100 isn’t an incredible deal, it’s still better than nothing if you have Citi ThankYou points that can be accessed. Remember, as with the other deals, use the least amount of points necessary to trigger the deal…1 ThankYou point, for example…if points maximization is of interest.
Although, the usage of points is always person-specific, so apply the number of points that are right for you.

A Caution
All of these deals require some rewards points be used to trigger the discount.
Be VERY CAREFUL to limit the number of points used to pay.
It can be easy to mistakenly use all points to pay, which would lower your price-to-pay significantly, but completely wipe out your valuable rewards points balance.
As we mention in the specifics of each deal, it’s best to use the least amount of points necessary to trigger these types of deals.
So when checking out, be sure you’re NOT using all your points to pay unless that’s what you really want to do.
Have you had success with any of these deals?
