50,000 American Airlines Miles for Switching to DirecTV
|Wow, this is the biggest DirecTV sign-up bonus I’ve ever seen.
50,000 American Airlines miles simply for switching to DirecTV.
Now, there is a 24-month commitment, and you must subscribe to DirecTV’s Select Package or higher, and keep service at that level for the 24 month period.
From DirecTV’s site, the Select Package offers 145+ channels and is priced at $50/month (plus taxes and fees) for the first 12 months. You can check out all of DirecTV’s packages here. While I’m not positive, I would think the $50 per month pricing would apply for this sign-up deal.
I took advantage of a 25,000-mile DirecTV deal a few years back, and at the time, that was the best I had seen. I thought I did pretty good.
My points posted not too long after my service began, so if you’re looking at grabbing some American Airlines miles, you should be able to get them in your AAdvantage account fairly quickly.
However, do you really want those American Airlines miles?
American has shown little to no Saver award availability on the vast majority of its flights since mid to late last year. Domestic, international, you name it, it’s very difficult to find reasonably priced awards these days on American.
But, who knows what the future will bring.
If you want to grab an easy 50,000 miles – which, when there’s Saver award availability, will get you 2 economy class roundtrip tickets within the continental U.S. – this is an easy way to do it.
Also, keep in mind, you’ll be locked into a 24-month contract with DirecTV. You can break the contract, but you’ll pay an early termination fee of $20 for each month left on your contract. So, if you keep the service for three months and then cancel, you’ll owe a $420 early termination fee.
And, for all our savings minded readers, that $50/month price will increase significantly when month 13 hits.
All things to keep in mind as you mull over this sizable DirecTV/American Airlines deal.
