YouTube TV Providing an HBO and Cinemax Free Preview This Long 2022 Thanksgiving Weekend and How to View It

YouTube TV, the live TV streaming service, is offering subscribers a free preview of HBO and Cinemax this long Thanksgiving weekend.

Actually, the free preview dates are Tuesday, November 22, through Tuesday, November 29, 2022. So subscribers are getting a full week of HBO and Cinemax free of charge.

How to Find HBO and Cinemax Channels and Content

Unlike traditional cable and satellite providers, there aren’t specific channels on the YouTube TV guide for premium channels such as HBO and Cinemax. So they won’t automatically show on your guide when the free preview is going on.

If you’re signing in to YouTube TV on a computer – and possibly a mobile app – you may see the pop-up screen below.

Click the “Watch It Free” button and you’ll be taken to the HBO Max screen which shows live HBO channels as well as a variety of tabs that will show different on-demand HBO Max content.

Once you leave this pop-up page, you’ll likely need to follow the steps below to get back to HBO/Cinemax content.

If you’re starting on a television-based app, you may never see the initial “watch for free” pop-up, in which case you’ll need to actually search for HBO Max and Cinemax.

To do so, look to the upper right corner of the YouTube TV home screen and select the search icon (magnifying glass).

  • Select search icon
  • Type in HBO Max
  • Select HBO Max – Network from the results

You’ll be taken to the same screen above with live channels and tabs for various HBO Max content.

You’ll have access to all the content shown on the HBO Max page until Tuesday, November 29th, free of charge.

Follow the same steps to access the Cinemax network page.

And, of course, if you have specific HBO Max or Cinemax movies or shows that you want to watch, you can use the search function to find those as well.

As an example, a search for Westworld brings up the Westworld (HBO) page where you can access all 4 seasons of the show.

Recording Shows

While you should be able to record shows and movies that are on HBO Max and Cinemax, you’ll likely only be able to view them during the free preview period.

Once the preview ends on November 29th, those recorded shows will no longer be available to view.

That’s how it’s worked in the past. Of course, things can change, but I’m going to guess recorded content will not be available after the free preview ends.

Let us know if you have information that’s different regarding the recording of free preview content.

Wrap Up

YouTube TV is offering a week-long free preview of HBO and Cinemax on its live-TV streaming platform.

Of course, this free preview is for paying subscribers only.

The only downside, especially for those new to the YouTube TV platform, is exactly how to find the free preview content. Just follow our guide above and it should make the process fairly easy.

And, YouTube TV does specify that while you’re getting HBO Max content free, you do not have access to the HBO Max app itself.

No matter, you still have a large amount of content available to view during this extra-long free preview of HBO Max and Cinemax.
