The Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex Bonus Categories for Q2 2023 are Amazon and Lowe’s

The 2023 second quarter bonus categories for the Chase Freedom credit card and the Chase Freedom Flex card are out and points/cash back earning for spend on those categories can be activated starting March 15, 2023.

Bonus Categories

The Freedoms’ fourth quarter bonus categories include:

Amazon.com
Lowe’s

All purchases made in these categories earn 5% cash back – or my favorite, 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent – on up to $1,500 in combined purchases.

Bonus earnings at Lowe’s and on Amazon.com will begin April 1, 2023, and run through June 30, 2023.

If you haven’t received your activation email yet, you can activate the fourth quarter categories here.

Obviously, you can activate your fourth quarter bonus categories at any point between now and June 14, 2023, to ensure you earn the bonus cash back/Ultimate Rewards points. I usually get it out of the way as soon as it becomes available to make sure I don’t forget.

How to Play It

To be blunt, these categories aren’t the best.

But, for those who do a large amount of shopping on Amazon – and according to our Amazon affiliate links, that’s less and less these days – or are planning large-dollar home projects this spring, these can be decent bonus categories.

Amazon.com

Obviously, any purchase on Amazon when using your Chase Freedom/Freedom Flex card to pay will earn 5% cash back (or 5x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent).

One way to juice your earnings this quarter on Amazon, though, is by purchasing third-party gift cards.

Gift cards such as, Chipotle, Doordash, Netflix, Ulta, and many more, can be purchased and used to pay for purchases you were going to make anyway. All the while, earning your 5% back.

Lowe’s

Lowe’s is similar to Amazon. If you have purchases to make at Lowe’s, use your Freedom card to pay and earn the cash back.

While the selection is not as great, typically, Lowe’s does sell third-party gift cards, too. Buy them in a Lowe’s store, earn the 5% back, and use the gift cards to make purchases at restaurants, etc.

The Q2 2023 bonus categories for the Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards are Amazon and Lowe’s.

Purchases at both will earn the bonus 5% cash back, as will third-party gift cards that you may buy, through June 30, 2023.
