Sam’s Club Membership Deal for 2023 – 50% Off Membership Price and $10 Off First In-Club Purchase

Last year, Sam’s Club increased its basic annual membership fee from $45 to $50.
Unfortunately, the fairly regular sign-up deals of $45 off $45 have disappeared along with that increase.
There are still new member discounts of which you can take advantage…just not quite as lucrative as in the past.
50% Off + $10 First Purchase Savings
The current new member sign-up promotion provides a 50% discount on the annual membership fee as well as giving a $10 savings on your first in-store Sam’s Club purchase.

This promotion’s end date is May 1, 2023.
So, this promotion makes a one-year Sam’s Club membership $25 and gives you a $10 savings on your first in-store purchase. Which, effectively, drops the membership price to $15. Not too bad.
Below is the promotion’s fine print. We’ve bolded sections we feel are most important.

- You must be 18 years or older to purchase a membership and membership is subject to qualifications.
- Membership cards are non-transferable and are valid at all Sam’s Club locations nationwide.

- Auto Renew: By purchasing a membership, you agree to the complete membership terms, that we may immediately charge you the membership price shown (plus applicable taxes), and that we may then automatically charge your designated payment method the membership price then in effect, plus any applicable taxes, on a recurring annual basis until you cancel your membership.
- If your designated payment method has expired or is otherwise unavailable, we will charge another payment method we have on file for you.
- You can cancel your membership at any time in your Account.

A few thoughts on specific terms…
With regard to the auto-renewal, that is easy to turn off once you have your online membership account set up.
And, “new members” are considered those who have not had a membership in the previous 6 months. You can always have a spouse, significant other, etc. sign-up for this deal and add you to their membership to avoid the 6-month restriction.
Finally, the $10 savings aspect of this promotion must involve an in-club purchase within 60 days of membership activation.

Depending on when you read this, check your credit card offers section to see if any Sam’s Club membership statement credit offers are available. In the past, both Chase Offers and Amex Offers have had savings opportunities for Sam’s Club memberships.
As of February 2023, I’m not aware of any new credit card offers, though.
Additionally, Dosh, the app based cash back platform has partnered with Sam’s Club to offer cash back on online Sam’s Club purchases. I’m not aware of current Dosh promos for Sam’s Club, but that can change by locality and date. You can read about Dosh at this link if you’re interested.
And, finally, you can earn cash back/rewards via a variety of platforms for your Sam’s Club sign-up and ongoing, online spend.
A few current (February 2023) cash back/rewards offers include:
- Up to 8% cash back/Ultimate Rewards points via Chase Ultimate Rewards shopping portal
- Up to 7 American Airlines AAdvantage miles per dollar spent
- Up to 6 United Airlines MileagePlus miles per dollar spent
- Up to 8% cash back via Rakuten – Doesn’t include the $10 savings offer.
You can view all the current cash back/rewards offers at this Cash Back Monitor link. Many now seem to state “up to” a certain miles/points/cash back amount with the highest going to new membership sign-ups. Read the details.
For some shopping portals/cash back sites, you’ll be able to find the same 50% off deal to click through which will also provide the cash back/miles/points. That’s not the case for all of them, though. And those likely won’t include the $10 savings of the first in-club purchase. So you may have to pick between shopping portal offerings or the 50% off + $10 back deal in this post.
