Mother’s Day Gift Savings and Points

Mother’s Day is May 8, and if you act quickly, you can take advantage of a deal that will provide Mother’s Day gift savings and points to boot.

I’m going to walk you through the steps to take FULL advantage of this savings and points opportunity, but you can still save and/or get points without following all of the steps I’m about to outline.

Quick View of the Deal

A quick, big picture look at the savings and points play is as follows:

  • 20% savings via TopCashback.com
  • $15 savings via Amex Offers
  • Earn 1,750 Southwest points (promo code: RRMD24) or JetBlue miles (promo code: TB1750 or TB33) per order. The points/miles promotion is limited to 5 orders.

All considered, purchasing a $50 1800Flowers.com gift card would end up costing you $25 ($50 – $10 TopCashback savings – $15 Amex Offers savings = $25) and earn you 1,750 Southwest points or JetBlue miles.

So, let’s run through how to make this happen.

First, to take full advantage of this deal, you need to have an American Express card that has the $15 1800Flowers.com savings offer attached to it. See my post on Amex Offers for details.

Make sure the 1800Flowers.com offer is loaded to that American Express card and use that card to make the purchase at 1800Flowers.com.

Step One

Log in to your TopCashback.com account. If you don’t have an account, setting one up is quick and easy. The only, somewhat, time consuming part is setting up your payout structure if you want to receive payments via ACH or PayPal.

TopCashback is currently offering 20% cash back on any purchase made at 1800Flowers.com.

Click through the 1800 Flowers “Cashback” link to make your purchase to receive the 20% rebate.

Note: TopCashback payments can take anywhere from a month to a few months to become payable. So don’t expect to see the 20% savings immediately.

Step Two

Purchase a $50 1800Flowers.com gift card (or whatever denomination you want over $50) using the American Express card onto which you’ve loaded the $15 Amex Offer.

It’s important to remember, to receive the $15 Amex Offer, you must spend $50 or more at 1800Flowers.com and use the American Express card (and card number) to which the offer has been loaded. Authorized user cards typically have different numbers than primary cardholders.

Step Three

Wait for 1800Flowers.com gift card to arrive. This can take 7 – 10 days, so if you’re reading this much after the publishing date, it may be too late to go the gift card route.

Why Bother with a Gift Card

Typically, multiple promotions cannot be used together. If you went through TopCashback to take advantage of the 20% savings, you would not be able to also get the 1,750 Southwest or JetBlue points/miles on that same order. It’s either one or the other.

Purchasing a gift card allows you to take advantage of the 20% savings, and then use that gift card to take advantage of the miles/points offer, too.

The Amex Offer is not considered a “promotion,” and thus can be used with other deals/promotions.

Yes, it’s time consuming, but if you’re the type who loves to maximize deals, that’s what you do.

Step Four

Once you’ve received your 1800Flowers.com gift card, go to 1800Flowers.com and select your purchase.

Remember, there are a variety of retailers/gifts from which to pick, such as 1800baskets.com, Cheryl’s Cookies, Fannie May candies, The Popcorn Factory, etc., so you’re not limited to flowers.

In the Review & Place Order section of the checkout process, you can enter your gift card information, and below that is the Promotion Code box where you’ll enter the airline promo code of your choice. Be sure to have your Southwest Rapid Rewards or JetBlue TrueBlue number available to enter in addition to the applicable promo code.

Southwest promo code: RRMD24

The Southwest promo code seems to have the stipulation that it will only apply to purchases made between May 2, 2016 and May 9, 2016.  To be safe, you might hold off on placing an order in which you use the Southwest promo code until May 2.

JetBlue promo codes: TB1750 or TB33

There does not appear to be a date restriction associated with the JetBlue promotion.

Don’t forget to click the “apply” button for both the gift card and promo code boxes.

And finally, place your order.

That’s it.

Time Periods for Savings and Points Posting

TopCashback can take anywhere from one month to a few months to show cash back as available for transfer.

Amex Offers typically show a statement credit within 2-3 days from purchase.

Airline miles (and my experience has only been with Southwest) usually show in your frequent flyer account within a few weeks from purchase.

I Don’t Care About Maximizing

If maximizing isn’t that big of a deal to you, you can always piecemeal the steps above.

Maybe you only want the 20% cash back from the TopCashback deal.

Or maybe you don’t want to deal with TopCashback, and only want to take advantage of the $15 Amex Offer statement credit. Your purchase can be anything above $50 and you’ll get $15 credited to your statement.

Or maybe you just want the airline miles. That’s fine, too. Just head to 1800Flowers.com, find something Mom will like, enter your frequent flyer account (membership) number and appropriate promo code and the next thing you know, you’re 1,750 points/miles richer.

That’s the beauty of many of these types of deals, you can take the time and effort to wring all you can out of a deal, or if you don’t want to put in that much work, do only what is good for you.

No matter, you’re still getting a deal, and that’s what matters most.

Are you taking advantage of this Mother’s Day savings/points deal?
