Hyatt Cardholders Can Earn 5x Points in Select Categories During 2019’s Fourth Quarter
It looks like this promo is targeted. Only cardholders who receive the promo’s email will likely be eligible. Might still try using the activation link in this post just in case.
The Hyatt credit cards not only earn points in what I feel is the best hotel loyalty program, but also provide various opportunities to earn bonus points during card-specific promotions throughout the year.
Hyatt and Chase have just announced one of these promotions.
The Hyatt Credit Card Promo
Hyatt credit card holders will be able to earn 5x bonus points on up to $2,000 in purchases when select bills are paid with your Hyatt Credit Card (old version) or World of Hyatt Credit Card (new version) between October 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019.
The categories in which the 5x points can be earned are:
- Utilities
- Insurance
- Phone services
- Cable and Internet services
All you need to do to earn the 5x bonus points is use your enrolled Hyatt card to pay your monthly bills in the categories above directly with your service providers.
The easiest way to do this is to set your Hyatt credit card as the recurring payment method for your specific service providers.
Once January rolls around you can remove your card as the recurring payment method should another card provide as good or better benefits for those payments.
Or, do as Chase hopes you’ll do and keep those recurring payments on the Hyatt card for as long as you’re a customer.
As long as you don’t hold a card that will pay you more than 1 point per dollar – the amount you’ll earn after December 31, 2019 – on that spend, there’s nothing wrong with earning Hyatt points for those payments.
Activate the Bonus
Hyatt credit card holders should have received, or will be receiving, an email through which this promo can be activated.

You’ll need to submit your last name, the last four digits of your Hyatt card and your Zip code.
You must enroll/activate by 12/31/19 to be eligible for the 5x points. Which means, you can retroactively earn the bonus points by charging those categories to your card and enrolling anytime prior to the promotion’s end date.
Although, I wouldn’t advise waiting that long. Just activate it now and be done with it.
The 5 points are a combination of 4 additional points on top of the regular 1 point earned on each dollar spent in those categories.
Here are some other Terms associated with this promo of which to be aware:
Rewards Categories: Internet, Cable, and Phone Service category merchants provide internet, cable, satellite television, radio, cellular, wireless data, and landline services. In addition, if you purchase or pay for your internet, cable and satellite television, phone or related services in a merchant’s store that is not registered by the merchant in the applicable services category, the purchase or payment will not qualify; for example, phone bill payments in a merchant’s store that register to Chase as a telephone equipment store.
Utility category merchants provide electric, household fuel, water, and sanitation. Please note that purchases of equipment and some merchants that sell utility-related goods and services are not included; for example, electronics or other retail stores and merchants offering maintenance and cleaning services.
Insurance category merchants provide health, automobile, homeowners, medical, and life insurance.
For those who don’t already have a card which earns bonus points in this promotion’s categories, this is a nice points-earning opportunity.
Don’t Have a Hyatt Card?
If you don’t yet have a Hyatt credit card, you should be able to apply now and take advantage of this promotion.
The spend you put on the card to earn the 5x points will also count toward your sign-up bonus minimum spend, accomplishing two goals at once.
You can apply for the World of Hyatt Credit Card, but if this promo is targeted, you won’t be able to earn the 5x bonus points.

The World of Hyatt Credit Card
You can earn 25,000 Hyatt points after spending $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months from account approval.
You can earn an additional 25,000 Hyatt points after spending a total of $6,000 within 6 months of account approval.
The annual fee is $95 and will be billed on your first statement.
The World of Hyatt Credit Card earns bonus points at all Hyatt hotels and in a variety of categories as well as providing a free night in a category 1-4 Hyatt hotel each year on your cardmember anniversary.

This Hyatt credit card promotion is a great way to earn some bonus Hyatt points on categories that most of us spend on monthly.
Simply pay your insurance, utilities, phone services and cable and Internet services with your enrolled Hyatt credit card October 1 – December 31, 2019 and earn 5x points on those payments.
