Were the Coronavirus Lockdowns that Stunted the U.S. Economy Really Necessary? We'll Know in a Few Weeks.

We've been told by elected leaders and high-level public health officials to "Stay home," "Save lives."

Many businesses across the country were required to close as a result of these government-mandated shutdown and stay-at-home orders leading to millions of lost jobs and a hit to the overall U.S. economy.

As some states began to loosen the lockdown orders, cries of "You'll be sorry" came from every corner.  With many of those who loudly sounded those warnings doubling down on their own restrictions, opening, then closing outdoor recreational areas while warning against large outdoor gatherings.  Don't forget social distancing and mask-wearing requirements they reminded. It's vital to keep the coronavirus pandemic under control, we were told.

Meanwhile, the numbers of those filing for unemployment continued to rise.  You can follow the numbers in my various posts in this topic.

Then came the protests for George Floyd.

And the coronavirus and its associated restrictions seemed to become yesterday's news...literally.

Hundreds, if not thousands, gathered together over the last week on multiple occasions, shoulder to shoulder, some wearing masks, some not, yelling, screaming, disregarding close physical contact, in what most health experts would identify as superspreader events.

Those same individuals who so vehemently scolded Americans for leaving their homes for something other than food or health-related supplies, suddenly became quiet.

And, a number who just a few weeks ago were requiring businesses to stay closed and individuals to continue the stay-at-home orders now applauded the large gatherings that resulted from the protests.

One of two things will result in the next few weeks.

We have a significant increase in Covid-19 infections, hospitalizations and deaths as a result of these superspreader events.

Or

We realize the lockdowns that resulted in such significant economic damage, job loss and unmeasurable physical and mental tolls, were really overdone.

Neither is a positive for America or the American people.

Keep the coming results in mind.  And hold those responsible, accountable for their actions.

Addendum:

We've definitely heard a lot from our elected leaders and health officials as well as various media sources regarding the virus and lockdowns. There are some viewpoints that differ from what's been widely presented these past months.  If you're interested in a differing view, below is a link to Alex Berenson's recently published book, Unreported Truths About Covid-19 and Lockdowns: Part 1.
