To say DirecTV didn't have its ducks in a row is likely an understatement. Unfortunate considering they had a full week to prepare.
A few items from the comments...some readers were told by DirecTV customer service reps that free preview content will no longer be allowed to be recorded. However, I was able to record a show last evening...haven't yet checked if I can actually watch the recording or not. Then, we'll need to see if recorded content from the free preview can be watched after the free preview ends. There have been some reports that that will no longer be allowed. Just have to wait and see...your reports would definitely be helpful.
And, if you're having issues seeing the free preview channels, try going directly to one of the stations. It may take time to load, but should appear. If not, try rebooting your receiver.
Update: The dates/free preview offerings were incorrect when initially published.
The new Showtime/Epix free preview dates should beOctober 1 - October 4, 2020. We'll update if that information changes.
This weekend (through September 27th), DirecTV subscribers should have access to the Movies Extra Pack free preview. Not as exciting, but still access to Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Hallmark Drama, Smithsonian Channel, Sony Movie Channel, HDNET Movies, MGM HD, Crime + Investigation, MTV Live, and ShortsTV. Depending on the receiver you have, these channels may not show as available, but they are.
Sorry for the confusion everyone. Mark your calendars for next weekend's Showtime/Epix free preview.
DirecTV is offering a free Showtime and Epix preview Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4, 2020.
All you need to do to take advantage of this free extended weekend of premium channels is tune to channels 545-552 for Showtime and 558-560 for Epix (may be different for some subscribers) and enjoy.
DVR FOR LATER VIEWING
If you have a DVR, you can record as many free preview programs as you like to watch at a later date. Just because the free preview ends, doesn’t mean your recorded movies/shows go away. Once recorded, you have them saved until you delete them.
WRAP UP
Enjoy all Showtime and Epix have to offer during this 4-day period, absolutely free thanks to DirecTV’s free preview.
While this post is specific to DirecTV there are many other pay-TV providers who may be giving subscribers a free preview of these premium channels, too.
