Previous reports indicate these deals can be used to extend current subscriptions - as long as they're subscribed to through Microsoft. In the past, a code is sent to use when setting up the Microsoft account. If you already have a Microsoft 365 account, the code - when entered - extended the current subscription by the time period associated with the deal - 15-months in this case.
I've seen one recent report stating this does extend current subscriptions to Microsoft 365, but there's no guarantee.
