Is Saving Money Worth the Effort?

When I first wrote the thought exercise/question below - roughly 3 months ago - times were different.  Saving was something some practiced on a regular basis, but others couldn't be bothered.

Now, at the end of March 2020, it could be argued that things really haven't changed, except that the ones who couldn't be bothered aren't so much worried about saving money, but, rather, whether they'll have a job in the coming months or how much of their 401(k) or IRA will still be there once the market drops stop.

I'll answer the question now, rather than leave it open-ended as I did initially.

Saving was worth the effort because it provides a cushion for the exact times we're going through right now.  And saving, right now if at all possible, is needed should you still have income coming in just in case that stops as the economic chaos continues.

There's hope that this upheaval will calm in the next few months.  There are also signs that deeply-seeded economic issues will not allow for a return to what we've considered normal for quite some time, even once the coronavirus is no longer an issue.

Let's hope for the former, but be aware - and prepare for - the latter.

We at Savings Beagle will be here to help in any way we can with money-saving deals and strategies that may put a few extra dollars in your pocket.  When added together, these dollars here, dollars there can add up.  And just might make a difference as we proceed through this crisis.

There are a number of ways to save money, from the simple - use coupons, buy items when they go on sale - to the more intricate - strategic use of credit cards to travel for free or earn increased cash back.

And while some (many) of us are energized by the simple act of getting deals and saving money, the end results don't come without effort.

So the question is, do the saving results justify the effort that's put in?

What do you think?
