Don't Fall for the DirecTV 50% Off Scam
Over the past week or so I've received a number of calls from unknown telephone numbers that actually leave a voicemail. All of them have been the same, beginning with the following pitch...
"Hi there, I'm calling you from AT&T DirecTV to let you know that your existing account is qualify[ing] for 50% off..."
As someone who's definitely interested in saving on my DirecTV bill, my initial reaction was, "Wow, now that's a good deal."
Then after taking a second to think about it, I realized in all the years I've dealt with DirecTV, especially related to lowering my monthly bill, I've never had DirecTV leave a voicemail.
So I decided to do a quick Google search. And lo and behold, it's a scam. Below is the link to a Raleigh, NC TV news report (ABC 11) on the scam.

So if you get a call where someone is saying you qualify for 50% off your DirecTV bill, hang up. It's most definitely a scam.
Please pass the word along to other DirecTV subscribers so they're prepared should these predators give them a call.
