[Ended] Chase Sapphire Preferred Card - 80,000 Points After $4,000 Spend
Quote from Savings Beagle on September 15, 2020, 3:16 pmThe Chase Sapphire Preferred card now has an 80,000 point sign-up bonus after $4,000 is spent within 3 months from card approval.
If this isn't the highest sign-up bonus for the Sapphire Preferred, it's right up there. The typical bonus is 60,000 points with the same spend requirement.
The Sapphire Preferred card is one of three Chase credit cards that "unlocks" the transfer ability of Ultimate Rewards points to hotel and airline travel partners at a 1:1 rate.
Additionally, the Sapphire Preferred can be a "hub" for all Ultimate Rewards points earned from cards such as the Freedom, Freedom Unlimited and now Freedom Flex. Once the cash back/Ultimate Rewards points are transferred to the Sapphire Preferred, they can then be transferred to travel programs such as Hyatt, Marriott, United, Southwest and more, where significant value can be found.
Current earnings and benefits for the Sapphire Preferred:
- Earns 2 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on travel and dining
- Earns 1 Ultimate Rewards point on all other purchases
- Earns 5 Ultimate Rewards points on Lyft rides through March 2022
- Get unlimited deliveries with a $0 delivery fee and reduced service fees on orders over $12 for a minimum of one year on qualifying food purchases with DashPass, DoorDash's subscription service
Annual Fee: $95
The Sapphire Preferred also offers some nice travel benefits you won't find on most cards such as primary insurance coverage for car rentals, trip cancellation/delay reimbursements and baggage delay insurance to name a few.
Obviously, this is a card primarily for travelers...which, right now, isn't too many of us.
Which is probably why the sign-up bonus has been increased.
However, even if travel isn't in your near-term plans, the card still provides outsized value from the increased bonus and the ability to transfer its own, and accumulated, points to travel partners when we do begin traveling once again.
Keep these points in mind, though...
If you are a current Sapphire cardholder (Sapphire, Preferred or Reserve), or you've received the sign-up bonus for one of the Sapphire cards in the previous 48 months, you won't be eligible for this sign-up bonus.
And Chase has the 5/24 rule...if you've been approved for 5 or more credit cards from any bank in the last 24 months, you likely won't be approved for any Chase credit card.
We have posts on the Sapphire Preferred card and Ultimate Rewards points if you'd like to learn more.
For those eligible for this card and its sign-up bonus, this is a really good deal.
