Another Warning on the Sustainability of Social Security

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget couldn't have boiled it down better.  In fact, I've used the same descriptor when discussing the underfunding of Social Security (and Medicare/Medicaid, too).

Here's how the Committee puts it...

"As the 2024 presidential campaign ramps up, candidates are facing pressure to pledge not to touch Social Security. While this pledge is framed as ‘protecting benefits,’ it is – in reality – an implicit endorsement of a 23 percent across-the-board benefit cut in 2033, when the Social Security retirement fund becomes insolvent."

One side screams bloody murder if there's even a discussion of addressing the underfunding - which means they must be fine with a 23% cut to Social Security checks in the all-too-near future.

And the other side meekly tip-toes around the issue, cowed by the political threat of being called a grandma-killer.

The gameplay has gone on far too long. Both need to stop and address the problem.

Unfortunately, that isn't likely to happen until the underfunding becomes a serious crisis.  Or you vote out those elected officials who won't acknowledge and at least begin action to address the problem.
