An Alaska Airlines Credit Card Bonus That Might Be Right for Some

Bank of America's Alaska Airlines Visa Credit Card is offering a total sign-up bonus of 65,000 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles - 40,000 after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months from card approval, and another 25,000 after spending $8,000 total within the first 6 months.

Additionally, the card comes with Alaska Airlines' Companion Ticket/Fare which allows a second person to travel for $99 plus tax to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies.  The Companion Fare will become available after meeting the $2,000 initial spend.

Other benefits of this card:

  • Companion Fare each year on account anniversary
  • Free checked bag on Alaska flights for you and up to six guests
  • Earn 3 miles per dollar spent on Alaska Airlines purchases and 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases
  • 20% back on all Alaska Airlines inflight purchases
  • 50% off day passes at the Alaska Lounge when you pay with the card
  • No foreign transaction fees

Annual fee:  $75

If you're familiar with the Miles and Points hobby, you know Alaska Airlines miles return the best value when used for award travel on Alaska's airline partners...Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines to name two.  Of course, if you fly Alaska a lot for business or pleasure (or used to and hope to in the future), that may make the card of interest too.

Keep in mind Bank of America's somewhat stringent approval rules:  If you currently have, or have had, this card in the last 24 months you likely won't be approved, and, no more than 2 BofA credit cards every 2 months, 3 cards every 3 months and 4 cards every 24 months.  Also, no more than 2 new cards from any bank in the last 12 months...BofA deposit account customers may see an increased limit.
