Update 2/2/2020:  The 20% off promo was supposed to end January 31, 2020, but some are now seeing an end date of 2/15/2020.

And, there now seems to be additional promotions of $20 off a $50 purchase and $40 off a $100 purchase.  The end dates on these appear to be 3/31/2020.  If you get one of these offers...or a different one than these three...please comment below.  Thanks!

American Express Membership Rewards earning credit card holders may be targeted for a $20 off $50 or $40 off $100 deal on select Amazon.com purchases.

You'll first have to have your American Express Membership Rewards earning card added to your Amazon Wallet as a payment option.

Then you'll need to enroll that card in Amazon's Shop with Points program.

Once these steps are complete, you can see if you've been targeted for this Amazon / American Express savings deal.

If you're adding your card/enrolling in Shop with Points for the first time, it may take a day or two for the deal to become available.

If you are targeted, you'll see information on the deal and an "Activate now" button.

If you've not been targeted, you'll see the message: “Thank you for your interest in this offer. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this invitation-only offer” or something similar.

Targeted cardholders must activate the promotion at this step to get the dollar off deal.

As is usual with these Amazon/credit card savings deals, the items that are eligible for the savings must be "sold and shipped by Amazon.com."  You need to see this language on a product's page for it to be eligible for the savings deal.

Add the item(s) that are sold and shipped by Amazon.com to your cart and proceed to checkout.

On the checkout page, select the American Express card as your payment method.

Then select the amount of Membership Rewards you want to redeem for this deal.  Typically, you want to redeem $0.01 or 1 Membership Rewards point to maximize the deal's value.  However, you can use as many Membership Rewards points as you want to lower the actual purchase price.

Once these steps are completed, you should see the $20 or $40 off discount automatically applied to the purchase amount.

Not everyone is targeted for these credit card savings deals, even if you have the deal's card in your Amazon Wallet and have Shop with Points set up.

Sometimes these deals are rolled out over time. 

If you don't have it now, check back in a few days or weeks to see if your availability's changed. Also, some have success getting the deal to appear after deleting a card from their Amazon Wallet and then re-adding it.  Wait a day or so if you give this a try for the deal to potentially become available.
