Alternatives to the Big Three Cellular Providers

Most of us are aware there are four now three major cellular providers available in the U.S.

They include Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile/Sprint.  T-Mobile and Sprint have now merged, which drops the number to 3 major carriers.

No matter the exact number of major carriers, getting a good deal with any of them is almost impossible.  Once you're a customer, deals to lower your bill are pretty much non-existent.

There are options, for those who don't need all the bells and whistles associated with the major carriers, to get almost the same service, but at a lower monthly price.

Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) lease/buy access to the major carriers' networks and resell that service at a lower price-point.

We discussed one such MVNO, Puppy Wireless, in a few posts over the years.  You can read the latest, "Puppy Wireless Offers Lower Pricing Than Verizon" to get our first-hand experience using the Puppy Wireless service.

There are plenty of these MVNOs available, some focused on CDMA networks (Verizon and Sprint), some on GSM (AT&T and T-Mobile) and some on all. Without getting into details, the service is pretty much the same as you'll get with the major carriers, minus the large monthly bill.

This discussion is to find out which MVNO you've tried and how you like/liked it?  Did you feel the savings was worth switching?  Or, did you prefer the more traditional Big Four Three service?
