For Those Churning the Target RedCard, or Those Who’ve Not Yet Gotten the Card, Here’s the Latest $40 Sign-Up Bonus Going On Through May 27, 2023
|Target’s back, once again, with its semi-regular RedCard sign-up bonus.
Target RedCard applicants can receive a $40 savings off a $40 or more future Target purchase as a sign-up bonus.
And, even if you’ve received a Target RedCard sign-up deal in the past, you should be able to get another. See our thoughts at the end of the post.
Plus, the $40 savings coupon should be able to be used twice (May have changed, see below)- once for an in-store purchase and again for an online purchase – for a total savings of $80. See our “data points” thoughts below.
Target RedCard
The Target RedCard (credit and debit versions, and for 2023 a reloadable account has been added) offers holders unique benefits that regular Target shoppers should consider if saving money is of interest.
Note – the Reloadable RedCard is now excluded from the $40 sign-up bonus offers.
Target RedCard holders receive:
- 5% off your in-store or online Target purchases
- Free shipping on most items on Target.com
- Access to exclusive promotions, gifts and special items
- An additional 30-days for returns and exchanges

Target RedCard Sign-Up Promo
In 2022, we saw this promotion almost every other month. And it looks like the same is in store for 2023, providing the option to receive multiple $40 off $40 deals.
Approved applicants for either the Target RedCard credit card, debit card will receive a coupon good for $40 off a future qualifying purchase over $40.
It looks as though the Reloadable RedCard is now excluded from the $40 off sign-up promos.
Applications can be in-store or online at Target.com.
This promotion runs April 30 through May 27, 2023.
The coupon will be mailed to approved cardholders with their RedCard and will be valid through 6/26/2023.
Update May 4 – Interesting data point – There are reports that you can use the $40 off coupon for an online purchase of $40 or more, and then again against an in-store purchase of $40+. So you’ll be grabbing a total of $80 in savings. This has been the case for a while now, so I doubt it’s a glitch in Target’s system. Although, it may not continue, so be aware the “double dip” may end at any time.
It looks as though using the $40 coupon twice has ended with this April/May RedCard bonus. The following language in the terms may indicate that one time via the Target Circle app is all we’ll get.
“Must upload coupon to Target App and be fully enrolled in the Target Circle™ loyalty program to redeem coupon.”
Not sure what kind of workaround would allow for using it twice via the app, but if you find one, please let us know in the comments.
There are a number of items that are excluded from the $40 coupon…you can see the full list under the RedCard Benefits & Program Rules “$40 off for new RedCard holders” info bullet found on the page links above and below or read the text below.
But, if your Target purchases are along the lines of household products, groceries, most clothing, etc., you should be fine using the $40 coupon.

Multiple RedCard Sign-Up Bonuses
This tactic won’t be for everyone, but it does appear possible to take advantage of these RedCard sign-up bonus promos multiple times.
First, this should only be done with the RedCard debit card. Not the RedCard credit card.
Of course, the first step is closing your previously opened RedCard debit card.
There have been questions on how long you have to wait between closing a RedCard and Signing up for a new bonus. Reports now seem to indicate you’ll need to wait 90 days from the date you last opened your Target RedCard debit card. After the 90-day period is up, you should be able to get another Target RedCard sign-up bonus.
There are reports of individuals receiving multiple – up to 8 or 9 – RedCard sign-up bonuses using this tactic.
If you currently have a RedCard open, you should be able to close it, wait a few days or a week, and re-apply for this April/May 2023 RedCard sign-up bonus…as long as it’s been 90 days since you last opened the RedCard, that is.
