Earn Bonus Membership Rewards Points at BP and Amoco with This Amex Offer
Check your American Express Offers for this recently released deal to earn 2 additional Membership Rewards points for gasoline purchases at BP and Amoco gas stations.
The wording makes it appear that you’ll earn 2 Membership Rewards points in addition to the 1 Membership Rewards point most MR earning cards provide for a total of 3x MR points per dollar spent.
Current Amex Gold cardholders who have the gas category grandfathered should earn 4x Membership Rewards points.
Language in the Offer Terms appears to corroborate that view…”These additional points are in addition to any points you would normally receive for purchases on your card under the terms of the Membership Rewards program.”
The Offer Terms also state “Offer valid on fuel purchases paid for at the pump at BP or Amoco branded US locations only.”
Whether that holds true in practice is another thing. Purchases in-store may earn the bonus points as well. Just need to try and see, I guess.
The Amex Offer is good through 9/10/2019.
Double Dip to Earn United Miles
The BP Driver Rewards program lets customers earn varying miles per gallon depending on fuel grade purchased and if a credit card is linked to the program or not.
Unfortunately, the program is currently closed to new enrollees.
If, however, you’re already enrolled in the BP Driver Rewards program…and you have an Amex card with the above Amex Offer available… you’ll be able to earn the bonus Membership Rewards points and United MileagePlus miles each time you fill up between now and September 10 of this year.
The landing page for the BP Driver Rewards program says that current enrollees can continue to use the BP/United MileagePlus program through September 20, 2019. What’s not clear is what happens after that.
