DirecTV Stream Offering a $20 per Month Discount for 2 Months to New Subscribers Through October 4, 2022
DirecTV Stream, the live-TV streaming option from DirecTV, is currently offering a $20 per month discount for your first 2 months on all its streaming packages through October 4, 2022.
When comparing live-TV streaming platforms, DirecTV Stream is the closest – for better or worse – to traditional cable/satellite services.
DirecTV Stream’s interface comes close to mirroring that of DirecTV’s satellite service, which may be a positive for some wanting to dip their toe into the live-TV streaming option.
While DirecTV Stream’s interface is similar to traditional cable/satellite, so too is its pricing. DTV Stream offers four packages, similar to its sister-platform DirecTV, with pricing starting at $69.99 per month (plus tax) and hitting a max of $149.99 per month (plus tax) for its highest tier of service.
The base package price is in-line with some of the other live-TV streaming services – YouTube TV excluded, which comes in $5 less expensive per month – but is much more expensive when considering its other packages. Keep in mind, though, you are getting significantly more channels with those packages, and more than what other live-TV streaming platforms offer.
It all comes down to what channels are important to you, and the price you’re willing to pay.
That said, here’s a quick look at DirecTV Stream’s service and its current pricing discount which runs through October 4, 2022.
DirecTV Stream
DirecTV Stream, the live-TV streaming option from DirecTV, provides access to most/all of the channels available on DirecTV’s satellite service.
The one, obvious difference, is access to DirecTV’s Sunday Ticket, which DirecTV Stream does not provide.

DirecTV Stream offers four packages from which to choose, Entertainment, Choice, Ultimate and Premier.
Pricing traditionally begins at $69.99 plus tax, but now through October 4, 2022, new customers can get a $20 per month discount on the first two months of service.
Discount pricing per month for the first 2 months is:
- Entertainment package – $49.99 plus tax
- Choice package – $69.99 plus tax
- Ultimate package – $84.99 plus tax
- Premier package – $129.99 plus tax

And, a few comments on the points above.
Obviously, you’ll need a decent Internet connection to stream the service. Many recommend 20Mbps and higher, although you probably can get by with a connection speed a bit lower than that.
If you’re a DirecTV or U-verse customer who wants to try DTV Stream with this promo, you might be able to take advantage of it using a different name (spouse/child’s name instead of yours) and email address. And, while likely unnecessary, a different payment method, too.
Canceling the Service
You can cancel the service at any time during the promo period or after. There are no contracts associated with the DirecTV Stream service.
One downside to DirecTV Stream, though, is that cancellation isn’t as simple as other live-TV streaming services. You can cancel online via your account management screen, but you’ll then be directed to confirm the cancellation via the Chat feature or by calling the toll-free number. They’ll try and keep you as a customer, but the process isn’t too lengthy or high pressure. And, depending on when you cancel, the service will continue through the end of the month for which payment’s already been made.
DirecTV Stream Device
You may be encouraged to add the DirecTV Stream Device to your DirecTV Stream subscription order.
You do not need the DirecTV Stream Device to watch DirecTV Stream. That can be a bit confusing for those just learning about the DirecTV Stream service.
You will need some sort of streaming media player on which the DirecTV Stream app can be downloaded, though.
These players include: Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Chromecast, Android, Samsung TVs, etc.
The DirecTV Stream Device is just a streaming media player, the same as those listed above, but maybe with a slight advantage when it comes to the DirecTV Stream interface…although I can’t confirm that. The DirecTV Stream Device prices at $120 for a new Device or $49.99 for a refurbished Device. New Devices can be paid via monthly payments, effectively putting subscribers into a contract until the Device is paid in full.
Save Even More on the DirecTV Stream Service
Another nice aspect of the DirecTV Stream service is that there are usually cash back or miles/points bonuses available for signing up.
These work the same as any cash back or miles/points earning opportunity…you must be a member of the shopping portal you’re going to use. Obviously, these are all free to join.
