My Thoughts and More Details

Carnival Cruise Line Gift Card

Up for purchase is a $100 Carnival Cruise Line Gift Card for only $85.

The gift card can be used towards the purchase of a cruise, online pre-purchases of shore excursions, onboard spa experiences and Fun Shop gifts or redeemed onboard toward the Sail & Sign account for gifts, drinks, etc.

If you’re planning a Carnival Cruise prior to the card’s expiration, this is a no-brainer. Plain and simple, you’re getting $100 for $85.

Card must be used before November 30, 2018.

Avis Car Rental and Status

The first Avis deal is for a 1-day car rental for $30.

Offer is valid in the U.S. (not New York Metro), Canada, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands and is good on the rental of any car of your choice up to Premium (Group G).

An Avis rental is usually fairly expensive – more than $30/day – so this would be a deal for pretty much any Avis rental situation. If you’re planning a trip this year or early next where you’ll be renting a car, this could be a good opportunity to save a little. However, the bigger question is, could you save even more by going with a different rental car company?

Be sure and read the Terms & Conditions on this deal before purchasing.

$30 certificate must be used by May 15, 2018.

Purchase limit: 7

800 Available

The second Avis deal is for one Avis President’s Club Membership.

Price for the deal is $750.

This is for road warriors. Or people who want to feel special. Typically, you must be “invited” to get an Avis President’s Club Membership.

Is membership worth it? From what I read, benefits are primarily upgraded rentals (2-car-class) and assured car availability. I’ll let you decide if the membership’s worth $750.

Membership will be active for 1 year from date of activation.

Las Vegas Getaways

There are five Las Vegas deals up for grabs.

Las Vegas Suite Getaways

And on Thursday there are two more Las Vegas deals.

Two nights in a Siena Suite (1,280 square feet) at The Palazzo. Price: $608 (10 Available)

Two nights in a Piazza View Suite (1,400 square feet) at The Venetian. Price: $495 (13 Available)

These deals are all about staying in a suite for a reduced price.

A quick check of the Piazza View Suite shows for May 18-20, pricing would be $950.12. And that price doesn’t include the $39/night resort fee, which is included in the deal. You’d definitely be saving a lot by purchasing the deal.

And the Siena Suite at The Palazzo prices at $1,199.56 (not including $39/night resort fee) for those same dates. Again, a significant savings by purchasing the deal.

Choice Hotels Points

While described as various nights’ stays in select Choice Hotels, these deals are really for a certain number of Choice Hotel’s loyalty program (Choice Privileges) points.

The deals are:

  • 2-night stay (40,000 Choice Privileges points) at a Cambria hotels & suites. Price: $160 (204 Available)
  • 3-night stay (36,000 Choice Privileges points) at a Comfort Inn. Price: $155 (308 Available)
  • 2-night stay (32,000 Choice Privileges points) at a Comfort Inn Suites. Price: $132 (310 Available)
  • 2-night stay (20,000 Choice Privileges points) at a Sleep Inn. Price: $90 (208 Available)

There is a purchase limit of no more than two sets of points per offer, per loyalty number. And a max limit of 8 sets of points per loyalty number across all Choice Hotels offers.

You must be a Choice Privileges rewards program member to purchase, so sign up before buying.

Let’s compare a two-night stay at Niagara Falls – Quality Hotel & Suites at the Falls – to see if the points deal price really is a deal.  Dates checked are June 15-17, 2017.

Two nights in a 2-queen bed room would cost $325.56 (room charge and tax)  Or, if you used points, it would cost 36,000 Choice Privileges points for the two-night stay.  And if you look at the deals, 36,000 points will cost $155.  Clearly you’d be getting a deal by purchasing the Daily Getaways deal and using points to book the room!

As with any hotel/points deal, which hotel you want to book and when will determine if purchasing the points is a good deal.

Daily Getaways Ins and Outs

All Daily Getaways deals go on sale at 1:00 pm ET the day they are listed.

I’ve noted the quantities available next to each deal – they’re also listed on an individual deal’s page on the Daily Getaways calendar. For popular deals, they will go quickly, so be ready to click the “Buy Now” button right at 1:00 pm.

Actually, if there is any deal in which you’re interested, just to be safe I’d be ready to buy right at 1:00 pm when the deal opens.

As with anything in life, the details matter, so for deals you’re interested in, be sure to look at the fine print…it’s listed on each individual deal at the Daily Getaways site.

So, scope out the deals that interest you for this week, set your cell phone alarm for 12:50 pm the day of the deal and get ready to buy!

I’ll see you next weekend with my rundown of Week 3 deals.

Until then, here’s hoping you get the travel deal(s) of your choice!
