My Thoughts
I’ve never been a member of the Best Western Rewards program, so I can’t, personally, speak to the value of award redemptions.
However, a quick look at the Best Western Travel Card redemption levels shows for someone without status in the program, 12,000 Best Western Rewards Points would get you a $50 Travel Card (11,000 points for Elite members).
I’d probably steer clear of redeeming this deal for BW Travel Cards.
A quick glance at bestwestern.com shows there may be value in using points for hotel stays.
Here’s a random reservation example for a 1-night stay at the Harrisburg (Pennsylvania) East Inn & Suites for a visit to Hershey, PA July 20-21, 2018.
20,000 Best Western Rewards points will get you a free night.
Purchasing the Daily Getaways deal to redeem for a free night at this property would cost you $110.
Paying out of pocket for a flexible rate 1-night stay would price at $159.84, room rate and taxes.
Even at the Advanced Purchase price, your total would be $135.86. Purchasing and using points would still save you roughly $25 per night at this hotel.
While there is a savings involved with purchasing/redeeming these points, I’m not sure the value proposition is that great. At least for this example, that is.
As I always say, whether or not purchasing hotel points is a good deal depends on how you plan to use them. The specific property, dates of travel, etc., will determine what kind of value you may be able to get from a points’ purchase.
Daily Getaways Ins and Outs
All Daily Getaways deals go on sale at 1:00 pm ET the day they are listed.
I’ve noted the quantities available next to each deal – they’re also listed on an individual deal’s page on the Daily Getaways calendar. For popular deals, they will go quickly, so be ready to click the “Buy Now” button right at 1:00 pm.
Actually, if there is any deal in which you’re interested, just to be safe I’d be ready to buy right at 1:00 pm when the deal opens.
As with anything in life, the details matter, so for deals you’re interested in, be sure to look at the fine print…it’s listed on each individual deal at the Daily Getaways site.
Think Best Western Rewards points will save you money on your upcoming travels, then set your cell phone alarm for 12:50 pm the day of the deal and get ready to buy!
Good luck.
