Chase Southwest Credit Cards Offering 100,000 Point Sign-Up Bonuses Through December 7, 2021

Chase is offering increased sign-up bonuses on its Southwest Airlines co-branded credit cards through December 7, 2021.

And, new spend categories have been instituted to make the cards more attractive for everyday purchases.

The increased sign-up bonuses are, technically, the highest ever at 100,000 Rapid Rewards points, but as we’re seeing more and more, to get the full sign-up bonus amount, you have to hit two spend requirements.

For each card below, that’s 50,000 points after spending $2,000 within the first 3 months from card approval, and another 50,000 points after spending $12,000 in the first 12 months from card approval.

Obviously, this is an effort to make the card your primary spend card throughout the year.  Or at least to use it for really large purchases you might have coming up.

Southwest Companion Pass

For those with the right financial circumstances, this is a great way to get close to the 125,000 qualifying Rapid Rewards points needed to earn the Companion Pass.  Especially if you can time your bonuses – both 50,000s and the accompanying earned bonus points – to hit early in 2022.  You’d then have the Companion Pass for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023!  If the Companion Pass is in your sites, whatever you do, DON’T have a significant amount of points hit your Southwest account prior to January 1, 2022!!  Anything earned and added to your account in 2021 will not count toward a Companion Pass for 2022.

Now a quick overview with links on the new Southwest card sign-up bonuses.

Chase Southwest Personal Cards

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus credit card – 100,000 Rapid Rewards points (50,000 after $2,000 spend in 3 months, 50,000 after $12,000 spend in first 12 months) $69 annual fee

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier credit card – 100,000 Rapid Rewards points (50,000 after $2,000 spend in 3 months, 50,000 after $12,000 spend in first 12 months) $99 annual fee

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority credit card – 100,000 Rapid Rewards points (50,000 after $2,000 spend in 3 months, 50,000 after $12,000 spend in first 12 months) $149 annual fee

New spend categories and their points earning include:

  • Earn 2 points per $1 spent on local transit and commuting, including rideshare.
  • Earn 2 points per $1 spent on internet, cable, phone services and select streaming.

The Premier and Priority cards are now offering 3 points per $1 spent on Southwest purchases.

Each card now offers 25% back on inflight purchases.

The Plus and Premier cards are now offering 2 EarlyBird Check-In® per year.

You can see the details and compare cards by clicking the card links above.

Keep in mind the Chase sign-up bonus rules associated with these cards…”This product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months. This does not apply to Business Card and Employee Credit Card products.”

This Chase Southwest personal cards sign-up bonus promotion ends 12/7/2021.

Chase Southwest Business Cards

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business credit card – 80,000 Rapid Rewards points after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months. $199 annual fee

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business credit card – 60,000 Rapid Rewards points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months. $99 annual fee.

A few spend categories and benefits have changed/been added to these cards as well.  Check the links above to see a comparison and highlights of new additions.

An end-date for the business card bonuses is not obvious…it may be December 7, 2021, too.

If you are able to apply for a business card, and are not over Chase’s 5/24 rule (approved for 5 or more credit card from any issuer within the last 24 months) then you may be able to easily earn the extremely valuable Southwest Airlines companion pass (need 125,000 Rapid Rewards points) with personal and business card applications thanks to these increased bonuses.

But, right now is the ideal time to go for the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass via credit card sign-ups.  Again, you’ll want to hit the cards’ spend amounts in January (or early in the year) so that the Rapid Rewards points post to your Southwest account giving you the Companion Pass for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023.

The Companion Pass is a real money-saver when it comes to travel.  But the ability to earn the Companion Pass via credit card sign-ups has become more difficult.  If you can handle the spend requirements to hit the 125,000 Rapid Rewards points, now’s the time to go for it.
