American – New York/D.C. to Hawaii $300s Roundtrip

There’ve been a number of really low priced airfare deals from the mainland U.S. to various Hawaiian destinations over the last few months.

Most have been from departure points in the western U.S.

Now we’re seeing some exceptionally low priced airfares – mostly on American Airlines – from New York and Washington, D.C. to most of the destinations throughout Hawaii.

Granted, there isn’t wide availability at these sub-$400 roundtrip prices, but if what is available fits into your travel schedule, you really can’t beat these airfares to what many consider to be a true paradise.

Hawaiian Airfare Deals

Here’s one example of the low-priced Hawaiian airfare deals that are available.

Washington, D.C. (DCA) to Honolulu (HNL) – 10/3/18 – 10/14/18 $334 roundtrip

And from Newark (EWR) to Maui (OGG) 10/20/18 – 10/29/18 $342 roundtrip

These sub $400 fares are extremely limited, and are mostly showing in October, so you’ll need to be able to travel fairly quickly.

However, you may be able to find fares in the sub $500 range sprinkled throughout the calendar through early December.

The best search option is Google Flights where you can click the date fields after inputting your desired travel dates and see pricing for dates into 2019.

Beware the Basic Economy Fare

One of the reasons these fares are so low is because they’re Basic Economy fares, which, if you’re not aware, come with a number of restrictions.

The above graphic from American Airlines illustrates the restrictions associated with its Basic Economy fare.

The goal of a Basic Economy fare is the get you to “buy up” to a less restrictive fare.  Whether it’s worth it or not is up to you.

Key points to keep in mind prior to booking these, or any other Basic Economy airfare, include the fact that no changes will be allowed, and you cannot make an advanced seat assignment.  If for some reason you cannot travel on the dates booked, the entire amount paid will be forfeited.
