AMC Theaters Takes on Movie Pass and Sinemia with Its Own Movie Subscription Plan
|AMC Theaters has watched Movie Pass and Sinemia enter the in-theater movie subscription plan market over the last year or so, and have decided to give it a try, too.
Similar to plans offered by Movie Pass and Sinemia, AMC theaters will allow members of its new AMC Stubs A-List program to see a set number of movies per month for a pre-paid, monthly membership fee.
AMC Stubs A-List Program
Specifically, members of AMC Stubs A-List will be able to see up to 3 movies every week including all of AMC Theaters’ premium formats such as IMAX® at AMC®, Dolby Cinema®, PRIME at AMC®, RealD® 3D, BigD® and D-Box at any of its U.S locations for $19.95 (plus tax) per month.
Key Points:
- 3-month minimum commitment after which membership – and the $19.95 fee – can be canceled at any time.
- The $19.95 monthly fee will be a recurring charge until canceled.
- Only the account holder can use the plan to see movies – a member cannot reserve a ticket for someone else.
How it Works
Once you sign up for AMC Stubs A-List (which can be done beginning June 26th at this link) and pay the fee, you’ll be able to access your account and virtual membership card.
You can visit AMCTheaters.com or use the AMC Theaters app to make your reservations – just be sure you’re signed in to your AMC Stubs A-List account before reserving.
You can also make reservations at the theater box office and ticketing kiosk. You’ll need to show your virtual membership card when “purchasing” tickets in-theater.
To redeem a reservation, you’ll then need to show a ticket, your virtual membership card, and a matching valid photo ID.
Only the account holder can use a specific membership to see movies.
How AMC Stubs A-List Compares
The main in-theater movie subscription plan players today are Movie Pass and Sinemia.
Last August we posted a brief piece on Movie Pass.
And, we wrote an overview of Sinemia’s program a few months ago, the specifics of which have since changed.
Which is somewhat illustrative of the in-theater movie subscription plan business model. It’s still in its infancy, working out the kinks, and trying to attract enough early adopters to make the model profitable.
Whether it can be a viable business going forward is definitely in question. Especially at some of the monthly rates being offered…which is why Sinemia’s monthly plans are now different than they were when we wrote about them only a few months ago.
And Movie Pass’ plans have changed multiple times over the past 10 months, too.
That said, here’s a brief rundown of the current plan offerings from Movie Pass, Sinemia, and AMC Theaters.
All plans require a smartphone with an up-to-date operating system and plan app.

Wrap up
AMC Theaters will soon be offering its own movie subscription plan. For movie lovers, especially those with an AMC Theater nearby, its plan is more than competitive…if you see a lot of movies, that is.
If you’re an occasional movie-goer, other movie subscription plan offerings may be more appropriate.
And, of course, just going to see a matinee every once in a while may be the most economical option for many.
