Added Credit Card Benefits from Many Issuers for July – September

Many credit card issuers are adding benefits to encourage use of their cards in the coming months.

The majority of the added benefits we’re seeing are on premium travel rewards credit cards, but not all.

Obviously, with travel not top-of-mind for many during the pandemic, banks are providing incentives to not only keep cardholders from cancelling, but to keep them engaged and using the cards.

As the Coronavirus pandemic hit, banks began their first round of benefits, some of which ended June 30, while others continue on. You can check our post on these benefits to see if you’re missing any that are currently available.

Now, as the third quarter of 2020 begins, we’re seeing round two.

Here are some of the banks, cards and associated benefits that have been announced.

Credit Card Benefits Q3 2020

Chase

Sapphire Reserve

• Earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on Instacart on up to $3,000 in purchases July 1 – September 30, 2020.
• Get up to $50 in statement credits toward Instacart Express – annual membership $99, monthly membership $9.99.
• Earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points at gas stations on up to $1,500 in spend July 1 – September 30, 2020.
• Earn 10x Ultimate Rewards points on select streaming services on up to $1,500 in spend between July 1 – September 30, 2020.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

• Earn 3x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on Instacart on up to $3,000 in purchases July 1 – September 30, 2020.
• Get up to $50 in statement credits toward Instacart Express – annual membership $99, monthly membership $9.99.
• Earn 3x Ultimate Rewards points at gas stations on up to $1,500 in spend July 1 – September 30, 2020.
• Earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points on select streaming services on up to $1,500 in spend between July 1 – September 30, 2020.

Chase Freedom

This is the regular Freedom quarterly bonus category offerings. I thought I’d add it as a reminder for Freedom cardholders.

July 1 – September 30, 2020, Freedom cardholders will earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points or 5% cash back on purchases at Amazon and Whole Foods.

Citi

Citi Prestige

Purchases at supermarkets and restaurants (including takeout) count toward the card’s $250 Travel Credit benefit.

This change is good through December 2020.

Discover It

Earn 5% cash back at restaurants and PayPal with the regular max of $1,500 spend July 1 – September 30.

Rakuten Visa

This is a targeted promo for Rakuten Visa cardholders.

Targeted cardholders can earn a $10 cash back bonus when you set up autopay for your electric, water, cable and/or Internet services with your Rakuten Cash Back Visa card.

There’s a max of $30 cash back that can be earned by making three new autopay payments at separate service providers.

Wrap Up

Taking advantage of these added benefits can save you some cash, or add to your points balances, that will save you money once redeemed.

Considering Covid, unfortunately, isn’t going away any time soon, we’ll likely see more of these promotions in the months to come.
