Another Savings Deal on Sam’s Club Memberships

A few weeks ago we wrote about a mega-stacking deal that would not only give you a free Sam’s Club membership but make you some money, too, if all the necessary steps were followed.

Truth be told, most people, including me, wouldn’t take all the required steps of that mega-stacking deal just to get a free Sam’s membership.

Now, however, there’s a much less intensive way to save on your new Sam’s Club membership.

Both Groupon and Living Social are currently offering Sam’s Club membership deals.  The deals are the same on both sites, so it’s up to you which site you purchase from.  Below I’ll pass along info which may sway your decision.

First, though, the deals.

These deals are for a one-year Sam’s Club membership.

  • $35 for a one-year Sam’s Club membership (regularly priced at $45)
  • Complimentary membership card for spouse or other household member
  • $10 eGift Card (valid online or in-club)
  • $15 Online eGift Card (for online purchases)
  • 19.98 Instant Savings in the form of a free Fruit Party Tray

Or

  • $45 for a one-year Sam’s Club membership ($45 value)
  • Complimentary membership card for a spouse or other household member
  • $20 eGift Card (valid online or in-club)
  • $15 eGift Card for purchases on SamsClub.com
  • $34.96 in Instant Savings includes a free Fruit Party Tray ($19.98 value) and a free Gourmet Sampler Cheesecake ($14.98 value)

These deals are good on new memberships only.  You cannot renew a current membership with these deals.

New memberships are defined as: a membership not active less than 6 months before 10/1/18.

If you have an expiring membership, but your spouse/household member has not had a membership in the last 6 months, he/she can grab this deal and give you the complimentary membership card.

And next year, you can – likely – do the same to keep getting discounted memberships.

Groupon Sam’s Club Membership Deals

Living Social Sam’s Club Membership Deals

Stack Deals

If you’re going to take advantage of this deal on Groupon, be sure to go through a cash back/rewards portal to make the purchase.

Here are a few of the top offers:

  • If you have a Chase Freedom credit card, the Ultimate Rewards portal is offering 4 points per dollar spent/4% cash back on Groupon purchases.
  • Ebates is offering 6% cash back
  • Earn bonus United MileagePlus miles on your Groupon purchases.  Last month we wrote about United and Groupon teaming to offer bonus MileagePlus miles on certain Groupon purchases when you sync your accounts.  It appears this Sam’s membership deal is considered a “local” Groupon deal which should earn 5 MileagePlus miles per dollar spent. And if you’re new to Groupon, you should be able to grab the 1,000 MileagePlus miles sign-up bonus too.

If those stacking offers aren’t enticing, you can view all the current Groupon cash back/rewards offers at this Cash Back Monitor link.

And, a few of the top Living Social cash back/rewards offers:

  • American AAdvantage eShopping is offering 3 miles/dollar spent.
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards is also offering 3 points per dollar no matter the UR earning card used.
  • Top Cashback is offering 7% cash back.

You can view all the current Living Social cash back/rewards offers at this Cash Back Monitor link.

Why Get a Sam’s Club Membership

If you don’t have a large family where buying 3-pound tubs of mayo and 10 pounds of chicken at a time is normal, you may not think a Sam’s Club membership is worth it.

And it may not be.

But, for my wife and me, I’ve found that you can find specific deals that will make the annual membership fee – even without an offer like this – worth paying.

Razor blades were a big one where we could get enough savings over a year to more than offset the membership fee.  That’s changed somewhat but is still possible depending on the blades purchased.

It wasn’t until a few years ago, though, that I found how valuable Sam’s Club Pharmacy pricing is.

If you don’t have insurance that covers your prescription drugs, you can find a number of prescriptions at incredibly low prices.  As low as $4 for a month’s supply.  And for a select number of prescriptions, there is no cost at all.

You do have to have a Sam’s Plus membership to take advantage of the prescription pricing.  A Plus membership costs $100 per year.

But, you can upgrade your Sam’s Club membership right at the pharmacy checkout the first time you purchase your prescription(s).  Meaning, the difference in price – $55 – will be tacked on to the prescription price.

Think about it, though, with this deal, you’re not actually paying the full $45 for the Sam’s membership…and you’re getting multiple Sam’s Club e-gift cards to boot.

If you think you might be able to save on your prescriptions with a Sam’s Club membership, read my piece, “Sam’s Club Pharmacies Offer Great Savings on Prescription Drugs,” to get more info and see the pricing document first.

Then, if you can benefit, jump on this Groupon or Living Social membership deal to make your savings even greater!
