Sinemia Makes Moviegoing More Affordable
|Sinemia, a fairly new movie-going subscription service, potentially offers a more affordable way for movie lovers to catch the newest in-theater releases.
A fixed monthly (or annual) fee provides subscribers 2 or 3 movie tickets per 30-day period.
But, is the price right for you?
Sinemia Subscription Plans
There are four different individual subscription plans from which to pick.
The “no commitment” (billed monthly) plans are:
- 3 movie tickets per month for $18.99 per month
- 2 movie tickets per month for $12.99 per month
The annual plans which are billed as a one-time charge are:
- 3 movie tickets per month for $13.99 per month ($167.88 for one year of service paid upfront)
- 2 movie tickets per month for $8.99 per month ($107.88 for one year of service paid upfront)
It’s important to note, these prices are after the SPRING Promotion Code discount has been applied.
It appears the Promo Code WINTER is still an option, which will save an addition $3-$4 per month on the monthly plans.
The WINTER Promo Code is worth a try if you’re interested in a monthly plan.
Which is what I might suggest considering how new Sinemia is, and how profitable (or not) the business model might be going forward.
If you have a significant other, or family member, with whom you enjoy going to the movies, you can take advantage of the Sinemia for Two option.
Sinemia for Two allows the member to get a second movie ticket for whomever they please to join them at the theater.
There’s a $1 per month discount on the Sinemia for Two packages when compared to purchasing two individual memberships. And again, the prices shown below are with the WINTER Promo Code applied.

How it Works
The plan and pricing details out of the way, here’s how Sinemia works.
After you’ve subscribed to your preferred plan, a Sinemia debit card will be mailed to you.
You’ll use the debit card to purchase tickets from a site, app, box-office or kiosk.
You’ll use the Sinemia app on your smartphone to select the specific theater and movie you want to see, making the connection to the Sinemia debit card you’ll use to “pay.”
Monthly memberships include:
- Tickets for any theater, any day, any showtime and any movie
- You can see movies in 2D – 3D – IMAX – 4DX – DBOX – ScreenX (which differentiates Sinemia from competitors)
- Buy tickets in advance from your home or at the theater (also different from competitors)
- No blackout dates
Memberships are based on a rolling 30-day period, starting the date your membership becomes active (when your Sinemia debit card arrives).
Memberships are NOT based on a calendar month (i.e. June 1 – June 30).
So plan your movie viewing accordingly to take full advantage of your membership and not leave a movie unseen.
Memberships can be canceled on the membership page anytime. After the cancellation, your membership will not be renewed but you will be able to use Sinemia until the last day of your plan.
Theaters
When I first heard of these in-theater movie subscription plans, my first thought was how many of my local theaters participated?
Information on the Sinemia site states that agreements with specific theaters are not part of how the program works. The Sinemia app and debit card allow movie tickets to be purchased at any theater.
Just to be overly cautious, though, I would encourage you to check the participating theaters in your area prior to subscribing. You can use the link below to search
Is Sinemia a Deal?
To be completely fair, the answer to whether or not Sinemia is a deal depends on a variety of factors.
How often do you go to the movies?
How much do movie tickets cost where you live?
Do you enjoy seeing movies in 3-D or IMAX where the cost is much higher than a standard movie ticket?
According to the National Association of Theater Owners, the average ticket price for 2017 in the U.S. was $8.97.
So, for two adults to see a movie twice per month, the total ticket cost would be approximately $36.
A Sinemia for Two plan for 2 movies per month would cost $18.99 (Winter promo code and monthly plan pricing).
A savings of roughly $17 per month.
Not bad.
But, again, whether it’s truly a money-saving deal depends completely on your specific situation.
Wrap Up
On the face of it, Sinemia appears to be a pretty good deal for those who enjoy seeing movies in the theater.
However, as the saying goes, the devil’s in the details.
Run the numbers, factor in your movie-going habits, and make an informed decision that’s right for you and your pocketbook.
Are you a Sinemia member, or plan on signing up…we’d love to hear your experience in the comment section below.
I have been using Sinemia for a while now and what really got me in the first place to give it a try is “the movie plan for 2 people.” because most of the times, I see movies with my wife. I find it very convenient to buy 2 tickets for only 1 card every time and I’ve never had any issues with it so far.
Thanks for your comment, Sandra! Glad to hear you’ve had a good experience with Sinemia. The 2-person movie plan was what caught my attention, too.
