Walmart Offering Verizon and AT&T Wireless Customers Upgrade Deals on the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S21+ Phones
|Walmart is offering upgrade deals on the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S21+ cell phones for both Verizon and AT&T customers.
These deals aren’t as good as the iPhone SE 2020 deals we saw from Walmart last year (which are still available), but then these are higher-end phones as compared to the iPhone SE.
The savings – whether paid in-full or via monthly payments – can be up to $600.
Here’s a quick view of pricing for each phone and how it compares to Verizon and AT&T. Details on each phone can be found by clicking the image or pricing links.
Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra
Pricing is for the 128GB version in the color Black.
Verizon
Walmart Deal Price: $20 per month for 30 months – total payments equal $600 which can be paid off on first bill.
Verizon Wireless Price: $39.99 per month for 30 months – total payments equal $1,199.70 (phone can be purchased for full retail price of $1,199.99)
So, the Walmart deal provides a roughly $600 savings off of the Verizon Wireless price.
AT&T
Walmart Deal Price: $16.67 per month for 36 months – total payments equal $600.12 which can be paid off on first bill.
AT&T Price: $33.34 per month for 36 months – total payments equal $1,200.24 (phone can be purchased for full retail price of $1,199.99)
And the same $600ish savings can be found for AT&T customers who upgrade via this Walmart deal rather than going through AT&T.
You may be able to get an equivalent deal, or possibly even better, from Verizon or AT&T if you have a trade-in that will offset some of the phone’s price. We’re not factoring that aspect into this post for obvious reasons.
And, of course, you’ll have to pay tax on the phone’s purchase price upfront, no matter where you buy, as well as the upgrade/activation fee associated with the carrier on which you have your service (AT&T – $30, Verizon – $35).
But, with the Walmart deal, you’re only paying tax on roughly $600 rather than $1,200.
And, some customers – both Verizon and AT&T – can get the upgrade/activation fee waived once you receive the bill by chatting or calling the customer service number and asking nicely. This is by no means guaranteed, though.
Samsung Galaxy S21+
Pricing is for the 128GB version in the color Black. Other colors may be available with the deal pricing noted below. And a 256GB version may be available at a higher price point – check the deal page for availability.
Verizon
Walmart Deal Price: $22 per month for 30 months – total payments equal $660 which can be paid off on first bill.
Verizon Wireless Price: $33.33 per month for 30 months – total payments equal $999.90 (phone can be purchased for full retail price of $999.99)
For the S21+, the Walmart deal would provide a savings of $339.90.
AT&T
Walmart Deal Price: $19 per month for 36 months – total payments equal $684 which can be paid off on first bill.
AT&T Price: $27.78 per month for 36 months – total payments equal $1,000.08 (phone can be purchased for full retail price of $999.99)
And, for AT&T customers, the Walmart deal would be a roughly $316 savings over purchasing from AT&T.
Again, these prices do not factor in a trade-in, which could make purchasing from a carrier a better deal.
Plus, tax and an upgrade/activation fee will be charged no matter where you purchase. Keep in mind, though, the tax will be calculated on the lower price associated with the Walmart deal.
The Walmart Site
There are reports that the order process on Walmart’s site can be buggy.
Some report making it all the way to the checkout page and then getting an error. Or, getting a notice that the item is out of stock.
These issues happened with the iPhone SE 2020 deal. Trying a different browser, or waiting a few hours and going through the purchase process again sometimes worked.
Additionally, the iPhone SE deal had various colors/storage capacities sell out quickly, but after a day or so, were showing as available again.
Not sure if that’ll happen with these Samsung Galaxy phones or not. If a particular phone is showing as unavailable, try checking back every few days to see if its status has changed.
And, there is no indication of how long these deals will be available. As I mentioned earlier, the iPhone SE 2020 deals were introduced spring of 2020, and except for a brief period, have remained available – and even lowered in price – this whole time.
I doubt these Samsung phone deals will follow that timing, so jump on them if interested.
