Chase Sapphire Credit Cards Offering Grocery Bonus November 1, 2020 Through April 30, 2021
|Chase is offering a bonus on grocery spend when you use your Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve for those purchases from November 1, 2020, through April 30, 2021.
Chase had added a grocery bonus on many of its credit cards – including the Sapphires – earlier this year to provide a benefit to cardholders spending more on groceries due to the coronavirus pandemic. For most cards, that perk ended in June.
Now, Chase is re-instituting this grocery benefit on the Sapphire Preferred and Reserve through early 2021.
Sapphire Cards Grocery Benefit
Holders of the Chase Sapphire Preferred will earn 2 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on grocery store purchases.
And Sapphire Reserve cardholders will earn 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent at grocery stores.
The bonus points will apply to grocery store purchases up to $1,000 per month.
For current – and new – Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cardholders, the increased points earning rate for groceries will automatically go into effect November 1, 2020.
Sapphire Preferred’s Increased Sign-Up Bonus
It just so happens, Chase is offering the highest sign-up bonus ever for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, which would dovetail nicely with this increased earning capacity on grocery purchases.
Sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and earn 80,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 within the first 3 months from card approval. It has a $95 annual fee.
The 80,000 point sign-up bonus is the equivalent of $800 if cashed out for a statement credit.
Or, $1,000 when used toward travel purchases in the Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal.
And possibly even more if the points are transferred to the myriad travel partners with which the Ultimate Rewards program partners and used to book free travel.
You can get details on the Sapphire Preferred card in our review.
Or check out Chase’s application link here. The offer expires 11/8/2020.
The Sapphire Reserve
The Sapphire Reserve has a 50,000 point bonus after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months, but comes with a much higher annual fee of $550.
Yes, it has some really nice travel perks for that increased fee, but the Preferred might be the better choice for most right now.
Wrap Up
Chase is providing Sapphire cardholders with an increased spend bonus on grocery store purchases November 1, 2020, through April 30, 2021.
The Sapphire Preferred will earn 2x points on grocery spend, while the Reserve will earn 3x.
For many of us, we’re spending more on groceries than in the past thanks to Covid and limited dining out and travel opportunities.
Chase recognizes this structural change for many – at least for the time being – and is trying to keep its travel credit cards a bit more relevant while benefiting its cardholders.
And that’s how a credit card issuer should act.
