Sam’s Club Membership Deal for Fall 2020
|Sam’s Club is offering a decent membership deal for fall 2020.
If you’re in the market for a Sam’s membership, as of right now, this is as good as it gets.
Sam’s Club Membership Deal
This deal offers new Sam’s Club members who join for $45 (plus tax in some places) an Instant Savings offer for $45 off $45 or more of qualifying purchases on one transaction within first 60 days of membership.
As long as you make a $45 or more purchase in the first 60 days, your membership fee is effectively zero…or your first $45 of merchandise are free, however you want to look at it.
Here are some terms of which to be aware:
- Must present this offer physically or digitally to receive this offer.
- By accepting this offer, you authorize annual recurring charges to any card on file for your Sam’s Club membership fee(s) plus any applicable taxes at then-current rate every year until you cancel.
- Visit SamsClub.com or a club or call 1-888-746-7726 to see full terms or cancel autorenewal. You can turn auto-renewal off in your Sam’s Club membership section on samsclub.com.
- The $45 offer Instant Savings offer will be loaded onto new membership account within 72 hours of membership activation and is valid for 60 days thereafter.
- Offer must be redeemed in a club location on a register.
- Offer cannot be used on SamsClub.com, with Scan & Go or with Club Pickup. Purchases of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, milk, fuel, pharmacy, gift cards, memberships or shipping costs are not included in this offer.
- For Club Pickup orders not paid online, savings will be based on and limited to the Instant Savings offers available to the paying member on the date of in-club payment.
A few term details –
You cannot redeem the $45 Instant Savings offer via an online purchase. Sam’s Club is making you come in to a store and pay at a register, showing your Instant Savings offer at the register (either with a printed copy or digitally on your smartphone).
There may be one way around having to walk the Sam’s Club aisles, though…place a Club Pickup order and pay in-store at a register for the Pickup order, redeeming the Instant Savings offer when you pay.
I understand why Sam’s Club is requiring in-store redemption of the deal, but considering the current circumstances, it would be nice if they allowed the offer to be redeemed online, too.
With regard to the auto-renewal, that is easy to turn off once you have your online membership account set up.
And, “new members” are considered those who have not had a membership in the previous 6 months. You can always have a spouse, significant other, etc. sign-up for this deal and add you to their membership to avoid the 6 month restriction.

Depending on when you read this, check your credit card offers section to see if any Sam’s Club membership statement credit offers are available. In the past, both Chase Offers and Amex Offers have had savings opportunities for Sam’s Club memberships.
As of late October 2020, I’m not aware of any credit card offers, though.
Additionally, Dosh, the app based cash back platform is partnering with Sam’s Club to offer cash back on online Sam’s Club purchases. Currently, Dosh has a cash back offer for new memberships, renewals as well as online purchases beginning at 4% cash back. You can read about Dosh at this link if you’re interested.
And, finally, you can earn cash back/rewards via a variety of platforms for your Sam’s Club sign-up and ongoing, online spend.

Why Get a Sam’s Club Membership
Right now, the most obvious reason to get a Sam’s Club membership is to stock up for what could be a challenging winter with both Covid and the flu making the rounds.
That aside, here’s what I always say about a Sam’s Club membership.
If you don’t have a large family where buying 3-pound tubs of mayo and 10 pounds of chicken at a time is normal, you may not think a Sam’s Club membership is worth it.
And it may not be.
But, for my wife and me, I’ve found that you can find specific deals that will make the annual membership fee – even without an offer like this – worth paying.
Razor blades were a big one where we could get enough savings over a year to more than offset the membership fee. That’s changed somewhat but is still possible depending on the blades purchased.
It wasn’t until a few years ago, though, that I found how valuable Sam’s Club Pharmacy pricing is.
If you don’t have insurance that covers your prescription drugs, you can find a number of prescriptions at incredibly low prices. As low as $4 for a month’s supply. And for a select number of prescriptions, there is no cost at all.
You do have to have a Sam’s Plus membership to take advantage of the prescription pricing. A Plus membership costs $100 per year.
But, you can upgrade your Sam’s Club membership right at the pharmacy checkout the first time you purchase your prescription(s). Meaning, the difference in price – $55 – will be tacked on to the prescription price.
Think about it, though, with this deal, you’re not actually paying the full $45 for the Sam’s membership when you factor in the $45 Instant Savings offer.
If you think you might be able to save on your prescriptions with a Sam’s Club membership, read my piece, “Sam’s Club Pharmacies Offer Great Savings on Prescription Drugs,” to get more info and see the pricing document first.
A Sam’s Club membership isn’t for everyone. But, if you think you can find some value in it, this sign-up deal isn’t too bad.
