Bonus Airline Miles are Up for Grabs with These Shopping Portal Promotions
Bonus airline miles are up for grabs with these Member Appreciation Bonus promotions via the United, American, Southwest and Alaska airlines shopping portals.
Yeah, I know, “I’m not traveling now!” is likely what you’re saying. But, you can still earn miles now, so that when things finally return to normal, the miles for that free ticket are just sitting in your account, waiting to be used.
The bonuses vary depending on the airline shopping portal and minimum spend requirement.
Pick your favorite…or two, or more if you have a lot of shopping to do…and earn a few bonus miles toward that future award ticket.
United MileagePlus
The United MileagePlus Shopping portal is offering bonus miles in the following amounts:
- Spend $150 and get 500 bonus miles
- Spend $350 and get 1,500 bonus miles
- Spend $600 and get 2,500 bonus miles
The one-time bonus of up to 2,500 miles will be based on cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period (7/20/2020 – 8/16/2020). Which means, you can make multiple purchases at multiple retailers on the MileagePlus Shopping portal and all of those purchases added together will count toward the spend levels listed above.
United’s MileagePlus Shopping “in-store offers” qualify as purchases, as well. So, if you are an “in-store offers” user, those spend amounts will count toward the bonus level. This is an added perk for those earning MileagePlus miles since no other airline shopping portal has the option of in-store purchases counting toward tier awards.
And, of course, there is language that defines “Qualifying Purchases.” The purchase of gift cards stands out as not being a “Qualifying Purchase.” Another item of which to be aware is that taxes and shipping fees do not count toward the spend thresholds. The United bonus miles promotion ends August 16, so you have a few weeks to hit the various spending threshold and earn those United miles.
Alaska Mileage Plan
The Alaska Mileage Plan Shopping portal is also offering bonus miles in the following amounts:
- Spend $150 and get 300 bonus miles
- Spend $300 and get 750 bonus miles
- Spend $500 and get 1,500 bonus miles
The one-time bonus will be based on cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period (7/20/2020 – 8/9/2020). Which means, you can make multiple purchases at multiple retailers on the Mileage Plan Shopping portal and all of those purchases added together will count toward the spend requirement.
If Alaska Airlines miles are your go-to miles, you have to shop a bit quicker considering the earlier end date for this bonus miles promo. And don’t forget the “Qualifying Purchase” requirements and that taxes and shipping fees do not count toward the spend thresholds.
The Alaska shopping portal promo ends August 9, 2020.
American AAdvantage
The American AAdvantage eShopping portal is offering bonus miles in the following amounts:
- Spend $150 and get 500 bonus miles
- Spend $300 and get 1,000 bonus miles
- Spend $500 and get 2,000 bonus miles
This one-time bonus will be based on cumulative qualifying purchases made 7/27/2020 – 8/17/2020. So, multiple purchases at multiple retailers on the AAdvantage eShopping portal during this period will count towards your spend threshold.
As with all portal bonuses, be aware that taxes and shipping on your purchases do not count toward the spending threshold level. And, it’s probably a good idea to give the other parts of the fine print a look at the bottom of the Bonus page (link above).

Southwest Rapid Rewards
The Southwest Rapid Rewards Shopping portal is offering bonus points in the following amounts:
- Spend $125 and get 250 bonus points
- Spend $300 and get 900 bonus points
- Spend $550 and get 2,000 bonus points
The one-time bonus of up to 2,000 miles will be based on cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period (7/20/2020 – 8/16/2020). Which means, you can make multiple purchases at multiple retailers on the Rapid Rewards Shopping portal and all of those purchases added together will count toward the spend levels listed above.
Be aware of the “Qualifying Purchase” restrictions mentioned in the portal promotions above when meeting the minimum spend thresholds.

Save While You Earn
Don’t forget you can potentially save on your purchase(s) while earning the bonus airline miles with Chase Offers and Amex Offers.
Check your Chase and/or American Express credit cards for Offers to retailers from which you plan to buy, add those Offers to your credit card and use that card to make your purchase via one of the airline shopping portals.
You’ll earn the bonus miles – when you meet the spending threshold – while saving on your overall purchase amount via a statement credit (depending on the card, you may earn bonus Membership Rewards points in lieu of a dollar saving amount).
Now that’s an added bonus should there be an Offer available for a retailer you plan on using.
