If you’re not familiar with these promotions, here’s an overview of how they work.

How It Works

First, you need to have your American Express Membership Rewards earning card added as a payment method to your Amazon Wallet.

Then, if you haven’t already, you need to link your American Express Membership Rewards earning card to Amazon’s Shop with Points program.

Membership Rewards earning cards include:

  • Amex EveryDay

  • American Express Gold
  • American Express Platinum (all varieties)
  • American Express Green

Additional Promo Info

Each promo has its own end date. Although, some are extended past the original end date for an indefinite period of time.

For the $20 off $80 offer the end date is the earlier of 7/31/2020 or when 37,500 customers have redeemed the offer.

It’s important to remember, only items “shipped and sold by Amazon.com” are eligible for the savings deal. Luckily, many products fall into this category.

Just look on a product’s page, usually near the “add to cart” section or “deliver to” section for the wording “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com Services LLC.”

And if you’ve recently added an American Express Membership Rewards earning card to your Amazon account, it may take a few days to show this promo…if you’re targeted.

If you’re not targeted when you first check, try again in a few days, new accounts seem to be added periodically.

And, some have had success getting the offer to show by removing the Amex card from Amazon and adding it back as a payment method attached to the Pay with Points program.

Purchases

While any product “shipped from and sold by Amazon.com” will qualify for this deal, it’s good to know many gift cards qualify, too.

Meaning, you can save on your Netflix, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Best Buy and more, purchases by buying a gift card, using this savings deal and then using the gift card to make your purchase at the retailer you’ve chosen.

I’ve used similar Amazon / Amex deals in the past to save 50% on my Netflix subscription costs. I’ve bought a $60 Netflix gift card for $30, loaded the gift card to my Netflix account and had it pay $60 worth of monthly charges. Not a bad deal.

Wrap Up

These American Express / Amazon savings promotions come along fairly regularly.

And they’re a great way to save on Amazon purchases.

Just keep in mind, items must be shipped from and sold by Amazon.com to qualify.

But with a little imagination, it’s pretty easy to find ways to save on even your everyday purchases with these promos.
