Increased Sign-Up Bonuses on All Delta Credit Cards Make Now the Time to Boost Your SkyMiles Balance
|A few times each year, American Express and Delta Air Lines increase the sign-up bonuses on the Delta family of credit cards.
The new Delta credit cards have launched and their higher sign-up bonuses and our overview can be seen at this link.
Considering American Express’ once-per-applicant-lifetime restriction on receiving a card’s sign-up bonus, when the bonuses hit near, or at, their all-time highs, it’s time to apply.
Well, the increased bonuses are here.
The Gold Delta SkyMiles credit card, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles credit card and the Delta Reserve credit card all have increased sign-up bonuses now through July 2, 2019.
Gold Delta SkyMiles Card
The Gold Delta SkyMiles Card has a 60,000 SkyMiles sign-up bonus. The 60,000 SkyMiles bonus is earned after you spend $2,000 on the card in the first 3 months.
You also get a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase in the first 3 months. If you won’t be flying Delta in those first 3 months, you can go to Delta.com, purchase a $50 Delta gift card that you can use toward airfare at a future date, and that will trigger the $50 credit, essentially giving you $50 free.
The Gold Delta card’s annual fee is waived the first year, and will be $95 each year after…if you keep it open, that is.
Below are two links for the Gold Delta SkyMiles Card. The first is a referral link which provides us Membership Rewards points for each approved application.
The second link is to the current American Express application page for the Gold Delta SkyMiles card.
For the Gold Delta SkyMiles card, the sign-up bonus and terms are the same for each link.
You don’t have to use our referral link to sign up, but we appreciate when you do.

Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card
The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card has a 75,000 SkyMiles sign-up bonus and a 5,000 MQM bonus. Both the 75,000 SkyMiles and the 5,000 MQMs are earned after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months of card membership.
You also get a $100 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase within the first 3 months of card membership. As mentioned with the Gold Delta card, if you won’t be flying Delta in the first three months, you can purchase Delta gift cards via a desktop computer (2-$50 gift cards) to trigger the statement credit. Be aware, mobile purchases and gift cards more than $50 don’t seem to trigger the statement credit.
The Platinum Delta card’s annual fee is $195, and is not waived the first year.
The Platinum Delta card is geared toward frequent Delta flyers, thus the 5,000 MQM bonus in addition to the redeemable 75,000 SkyMiles. One nice benefit of this card is the Domestic Main Cabin round-trip companion certificate you earn each year upon renewal of your Card.
You can read more about the Platinum Delta SkyMiles card and apply at the links below.
Our referral link is similar to the publicly available Amex link except our referral link provides 70,000 SkyMiles and 10,000 MQMs rather than the 75,000 SkyMiles and 5,000 MQMs associated with the public American Express link.
If you value the larger MQMs bonus for status more than the extra 5,000 redeemable SkyMiles then use our referral link. If not, then use the publicly available Amex link.

Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express
The Delta Reserve Card has a 75,000 SkyMiles sign-up bonus and a 5,000 MQM bonus. Both the 75,000 SkyMiles and the 5,000 MQMs are earned after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months of card membership.
The Delta Reserve Card’s annual fee is $450, and is not waived the first year.
The Delta Reserve Card provides similar benefits to the Gold and Platinum Delta cards except the Delta Reserve provides complimentary Delta Sky Club access for the primary card holder. Up to two guests can join the primary card holder in Delta Sky Clubs for a fee of $29 each per visit.
The Delta Reserve also provides the Domestic Main Cabin round-trip companion certificate each year upon renewal of your Card.

Benefits
All Delta credit cards provide first checked bag free benefit for the cardholder and up to nine additional passengers traveling on the same reservation.
Delta cards earn 2 SkyMiles per dollar spent on Delta flights, and 1 SkyMile per dollar spent on all other purchases.
And, since the Delta cards are issued by American Express, you’ll get access to the potentially valuable Amex Offers that all American Express cardholders enjoy.
Important
American Express has one of the most stringent sign-up bonus restrictions in the credit card industry.
If you have ever received a sign-up bonus for a specific American Express credit card in the past, you will not receive a sign-up bonus for that specific card again.
So, if you’ve gotten a sign-up bonus for either the Gold Delta, Platinum Delta or Delta Reserve cards in the past, don’t bother applying if earning the sign-up bonus is your goal.
Keep in mind, though, each Delta card is its own product. So if you’ve received the sign-up bonus on the Gold in the past, you can still get the sign-up bonus on the Platinum and Reserve cards.
There have been recent reports that 7 years is the cutoff (if you received a sign-up bonus more than 7 years ago, you could get the sign-up bonus now) but that’s not confirmed. Gamble if you want.
One other option: the Gold Delta, Platinum Delta and Delta Reserve cards each have business credit card versions for which you can apply and receive the sign-up bonus. If you have a business – even selling things on eBay, or a small side business – you possibly could get approved for the business version of either card. Just something to consider.
Wrap up
With any credit card, but especially American Express credit cards, you want to grab the largest sign-up bonus possible.
While the Gold Delta card has seen a larger sign-up bonus in the past – 75,000 SkyMiles if I remember correctly – the 60,000 mile bonus is pretty good.
And the Platinum Delta and Delta Reserve cards are either near or at their highest sign-up bonuses with these offers.
So if you’re in the market for some Delta SkyMiles, now just might be the time to pull the application trigger.
